Resolute, Untamed and Untold. While they might sound like the names of three classic British warships, they’re actually the names Mini has given to three new special edition packages.
If there’s one thing Mini is known for, it’s offering buyers extensive opportunities to customize their vehicles. One way to do that is with the special editions the brand frequently rolls out. But, until now, it has offered just one of those at a time. This time, they’re available on every single model in the marque’s product line-up.
“For the last 20 years we’ve always had a special edition” available, whether “paying homage” to the brand’s racing history or the original Mini launched in 1959,” Shirley Nguyen, the product planning manager for Mini USA, said in a media background briefing. The three new models provide the opportunity for all buyers “to extend their personality and make their Mini unique.”
Resolute Edition
The Resolute Edition covers all the various versions of the Mini Hardtop. That includes the two- and four-door plus the convertible and the all-electric Mini Cooper SE.
All Resolute models start with a Rebel Green exterior, a color previously offered only on John Cooper Works models. It’s offset by a Pepper White roof finish and accents, including mirror caps. Additional design features, including the headlight surround, grille and door handles, are done up in Resolute Bronze. Specific models get unique color combinations.
There are subtle differences, depending upon the specific body, however. With the Mini Convertible Resolute Edition, for example, the mirror caps and cloth tops are finished in black. And there are black strips by the windows of the Hardtop two- and four-door models. The all-electric Cooper SE gets aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels, rather than the 18-inch Pulse Spoke Black alloy wheels on other Resolute Editions.
The interiors feature sport seats in Black Pearl or light checkering, and Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheels. They add details like LED ambient lighting and illuminated door handles. Resolute models also get the latest Mini infotainment system and an 8.8-inch touchscreen display.
Untold Edition
The Mini Untold Edition is based around all three versions of the Clubman, and it’s a much-needed bit of attention for a compact wagon that hasn’t gotten a major update since 2016 and any sort of facelift since 2019.
Each Untold model is colored in Sage Green, with dark green surrounds on the lower body, rather than the usual black. Five narrow sport stripes run across the hood and roof, with the side scuttles featuring stripes applied with a 3D printing process. Piano Black is applied to exterior trim including door handles and exhaust pipes. Untold models ride on 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, they get leather sports seats in Sage Green and light-colored seams and piping. Add illuminated accent strips and Nappa sport-leather-trimmed steering wheels.
The Untold package is the most expensive of the three special editions, and it features high-trim features such as Adaptive LED headlamps and the Mini Driving Modes selector.
Untamed Edition
The third package, dubbed Mini Untamed, focused on the Countryman, the downsized SUV that is the British marque’s most popular product line.
All versions, including the Cooper S and ALL4, are finished in Momentum Grey metallic paint, including accent pieces such as the lower air intake and side skirts. The roof, mirror caps and roof rails are finished in black. Four diagonal strips, each in Frozen Bluestone, run along the lower half of the doors. The Untamed models feature two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Untamed models are finished in shades of blue and green, including the leather sport seats. Landscape patterns accent decorative trim, inside and out.
Pricing
Set to debut in Mini’s U.S. showrooms March 1, the special edition packages are surprisingly affordable upgrades, carrying a premium of just $1,000 on Resolute models, $1,500 for the Untamed Edition and $2,500 for the Untold package. The Cooper S Hardtop 2-Door, in other words, starts at $35,900, the top-line Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 going for $46,900 before options. Add $850 for delivery fees.
