Bold trucks capable of going where there are no roads are gaining traction right now, and the new 2021 Shelby F-250 Super Baja rides high on that trend.
Shelby American’s newest offering is powered by the Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel with 475 horsepower and an impressive 1,050 pound-feet of torque while utilizing an advanced off-road suspension and towing package.
Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American, said the Shelby F-250 Super Baja builds on the firm’s experience and success with the Ford Shelby F-150 as it competes with the likes of the Ram 1500 TRX and others.
A successful track record
“The astounding capabilities of the Ford Shelby F-150 truck led to requests for a three-quarter ton truck that delivered maximum towing capacity and serious off-road capabilities,” Patterson said.
“We leveraged expertise gained from our Shelby Raptor and Shelby F-150 programs to create the Shelby F-250 Super Baja pickup,” Patterson added. Shelby American expects to sell about 250 Super Bajas with their estimated price tag of $125,000.
The Shelby F-250 comes with a unique suspension system that utilizes the truck’s higher ride height, greater travel to deliver better off-road handling. The Shelby F-250 Super Baja also comes with 18-inch alloy wheels on BFG KM3 37-inch tires. A pair of spares are mounted on a steel chase rack in the bed.
The Shelby also is equipped with a functional Ram Air Hood with extraction vent, powder coated steel front and rear bumpers, tow points, air flow vents and LED lighting around the truck. The other features on the Super Baja include painted front grille and fender flares, XL power steps with rock sliders and lights, bed liner, tinted windows and powder coated exhaust tips as well as stripes and badges.
Designed to be rough-and-tumble
“The amazing suspension on the Shelby F-250 Super Baja is engineered to handle a wide variety of terrain, from hard core off-roading to performance street driving,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American vice president of operations and chief designer.
“It includes a custom BDS lift system, custom front radius arms and dual steering stabilizer,” LaViolette added.
