Singaporean Hypercar Takes Aim at Bugatti Performance Numbers

Flowery Dendrobium set to bloom at Geneva Motor Show.

by on Jan.18, 2017

The Vanda Dendrobium is named after a genus of orchids native to Singapore.

It looks like something Batman might drive, hails from Singapore and has the nearly unpronounceable name Dendrobium, but start-up Vanda Electrics is betting there’s a market for the new battery hypercar it’s set to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The concept model making its debut on March 7th will join a rapidly growing list of high-performance and exotic plug-based models that have been announced in recent months – from the all-electric Faraday Future FF91 to the hybrid-assisted Formula One hypercar under development by Mercedes-Benz.

Vanda’s website suggests it was “set up to look into the future of electric transportation.” Until now, that has had it focusing on relatively mundane projects like a 25 mph urban delivery vehicle and an e-scooter. But while the Singapore-based company’s teaser release provides few details, it last year hinted it was working on an electric exotic that could hit 250 mph.

Bugatti Chiron Makes First US Public Appearance

New ultracar not a “carryover” from predecessor.

by on Aug.22, 2016

The new Bugatti Chiron was on full display at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

While it officially debuted at the Geneva Motor Show last spring, Bugatti has been keeping the new Chiron ultracar largely under wraps ever since.

But the Volkswagen AG maker brought the Veyron successor out, appropriately enough, for this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and we finally got the chance to check it out up close – and with the help of Chiron Chief Engineer Willi Netuschil.

Product News!

While the Chiron picks up on key styling cues of the brand’s previous exotic, the Veyron, Netuschil made it clear that it is anything but a carryover. A closer look, he explained, reveals the significant updates made to ensure that Chiron can deliver a whopping 25% more power than the old Bugatti, something that should help it regain a number of world records, including power, torque and top speed. Ferrari Readying Drop-Top LaFerrari

Set to be fastest convertible ever for Italian maker.

by on Jul.07, 2016

Ferrari will offer both a folding soft top and a carbon fiber hardtop for the LaFerrari Convertible.

Even before its official unveiling, Ferrari says it has already sold out the fastest convertible it has ever come up with – even before it releases the official price tag, in fact. But that’s likely no surprise considering the incredible demand for the original LaFerrari coupe.

We’re expecting to hear more in the coming days, but what we’ve already learned is that the LaFerrari convertible has undergone “significant and extensive modifications” to maintain the hardtop’s rigidity and improve its aerodynamics.

The cabrio edition will also maintain the original LaFerrari powertrain, a 949 horsepower package using Formula One-derived KERS hybrid technology that will help it launch from 0 to 60 in just 2.4 seconds – on the way to a top speed of 217 mph.

The long-awaited Bugatti Chiron will finally make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

After a seemingly endless wait, Bugatti has finally confirmed plans to debut the replacement for its long-lived Veyron at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

As long-rumored, the “hypercar” will be known as the Bugatti Chiron, a name borrowed both from Greek mythology and one of the more legendary Bugatti factory drivers.

Auto Show News!

While details remain to be seen, expectations are that the new Chiron will regain claim to being the world’s most powerful – and possibly fastest – automobile, with a 16-ylinder engine likely to produce something on the order of 1,500 horsepower.

Bugatti Looking to Remain King of Speed

Chiron producing unprecedented 0-62 mph time: 2 seconds.

by on Apr.30, 2015

Bugatti is replacing its Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse with a hybrid named the Chiron.

There are plenty of cars that post zero-to-100 km times in the four second range. Real speed comes in the low-three to high-two second span and now Bugatti’s looking to take that a notch lower: two seconds flat.

The Chiron, which is the replacement for the Veyron, is said to be putting out 1,500 horsepower and 1,100 ft-lb of torque. That would be 0.4 seconds faster than the Vitesse version. It also puts some distance between it and the Ferrari LaFerrari (0.5 seconds faster), the McLaren P1 (0.6 faster) and the Porsch 918 Wessach (0.9 seconds faster).

The Leader in Global Automotive News!

The new model is nearly completely new from the ground up: 92% of the components are new or updated. The result may be a lighter vehicle with better handling even though it looks very much like its predecessor. (more…)
