Is a Toco Warranty Worth It?

Toco Warranty Corp. is a California-based vehicle service contract provider that has served drivers for the past seven years. Policies are available to customers across the U.S. except in Alaska, Missouri and Washington.

We like the provider’s simple plans options and easy-to-understand contracts, as well as their monthly payment options.

        Toco Extended Car Warranty Coverage

Toco offers three levels of vehicle service contracts: Blue, Yellow and Orange. Most Toco Warranty contracts have three-year terms, and contract availability is restricted by vehicle mileage. Contract restrictions and coverage details are outlined below.

All Toco warranty plans include the following additional benefits:

        • 24-hour roadside assistance: Provides towing up to 15 miles, battery jump-starts, flat tire changes, locksmith services and fuel deliveries
        • Hotel rebates: Gives a 5% rebate on hotel bills when booking through partners
        • Rental car benefit: Reimburses $35 a day for a maximum of $175 per claim while your vehicle is in the shop
        • Trip interruption coverage: Reimburses up to $100 a day for a maximum of $300 per claim if you break down more than 100 miles from home

        Toco Warranty Exclusions

Toco Warranty contracts will not cover the following items and services:

        • Maintenance: Factory-required maintenance items like oil changes, filter changes and tire rotations
        • Cosmetics: Appearance and non-mechanical parts, such as upholstery, exterior trim and bumpers
        • Wear and tear: Items expected to degrade over time such as brake pads, brake shoes, shock absorbers, struts and tires

Cost of a Toco Extended Warranty

Based on Toco warranty reviews, many customers seem happy with the price of their Toco contracts. Our researchers contacted Toco to ask about Orange Plan coverage for a 2017 Honda Civic with 30,000 miles. We were offered the following contract terms:

        • Term length: 5 years/125,000 miles
        • Financing: $69.64 per month for 36 months
        • Down payment: First month’s payment
        • Deductible: $100.00
        • Total cost: $2,507.04
        • Cost per year of coverage: $501.41

This price is about average for an auto warranty. It is neither exceptionally low nor exceptionally high. The financing terms are good for the industry, requiring no down payment and offering a low overall monthly price.

However, this is just an example. Extended warranty costs are different for every customer and vehicle. The cost of your Toco Warranty plan will be impacted by factors such as:

        • Coverage level and contract length
        • Deductible
        • Vehicle make and model
        • Vehicle age and mileage
        • Location

How to Get a Quote and File a Claim

Toco auto warranties promise to pay the repair costs of covered components after a mechanical breakdown. This coverage goes into effect after a 30-day/1,000-mile waiting period. After the waiting period, if your vehicle experiences a mechanical failure, take it to any licensed mechanic, repair shop or dealership. Have the repair facility call Toco at 800-616-1215 and provide your customer contract number.

If your claim is approved, Toco will pay your repair facility directly, and you’ll only be responsible for paying your deductible. Toco warranty reviews suggest that the Toco claims process is smooth and efficient.

        Transfers and Cancellations

If you sell your covered vehicle before your Toco coverage expires, your contract can be transferred to the new owner for a $75 fee. This fee is only $40 for Florida residents, and there is no fee for New Hampshire drivers.

Toco contracts can be canceled at any time, and you will lose only what monthly payments you have already made.

        Liability Limitations

Toco does not promise to pay an unlimited amount for repairs. Each repair visit has a maximum reimbursement limit, which is equal to the current trade-in value of your vehicle. There is also a total contract reimbursement limit, which is equal to the retail price of your vehicle on the day you purchase coverage.

        Toco Warranty Reviews

Toco Warranty reviews are largely positive. The company is accredited and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but what is even more impressive is that Toco has a 4.49 out of 5 BBB customer review score based on over 115 reviews. It is very rare to see an extended warranty company with a customer rating this high on its BBB profile.

Customers who did complain were upset that their claims were denied. However, many Toco reviews reported fast claims and a pleasant customer service experience.

        Our Verdict on Toco: 8.0 / 10.0

Toco warranty reviews indicate that customers are satisfied with Toco claims servicing, which is extremely important for an extended car warranty provider. It’s certainly worth considering a Toco warranty if one is available to you. We recommend shoppers include Toco among the companies from which they request claims.

Our Picks for Best Extended Car Warranties

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
