It’s no secret that Range Rovers are expensive vehicles, and as we all know, expensive cars come with expensive repair costs. The Range Rover extended warranty can help put money back in your pocket and ensure peace of mind while on the road.

In this article, we’ll cover the ins and outs of the Range Rover extended warranty that you can purchase from Land Rover. We’ll also discuss why getting coverage from one of the top reputable extended car warranty companies may be a better choice for your vehicle.

We’ve researched and reviewed the best extended car warranty companies in the industry to help you narrow down the right provider for your Range Rover protection. To get a free, personalized quote from one of our top recommended providers, click above.

What Is Covered Under the Range Rover Extended Warranty?

The Range Rover extended warranty offers mechanical and electrical vehicle coverage to give you peace of mind after your factory Land Rover warranty expires. This protection plan can vary in length and is designed to reduce the cost of your ownership over time.

However, that’s about all the information Land Rover provides on its website about the Range Rover extended warranty, urging you to get in touch with a local dealership to find out more information. So, to dig deeper into the Range Rover extended warranty, we did exactly that.

Our review team called a local dealer to learn what term limits and warranty details are offered to Range Rover owners. The representative we spoke with said that coverage lengths could extend up to 10 years or 150,000 miles, depending on a vehicle’s model and mileage.

We were also told that the Range Rover extended warranty was administered by CNA National Warranty Corporation. Land Rover doesn’t clearly state this in its Vehicle Protection Plan brochure, so it’d be worth verifying with your local Range Rover dealer.

There is only one Range Rover extended warranty plan. It combines bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage, protecting a range of parts including:

        • Engine
        • Transmission
        • Suspension
        • Axles and transfer box
        • Gearbox
        • Propshaft
        • Catalytic converter
        • Fuel and diesel injection systems
        • Braking system
        • Electrical systems
        • Electronic ignition
        • Starter motor
        • Air conditioning and cooling systems
        • Infotainment system
        • Turbocharger/supercharger
        • Starter motor

On its website, Land Rover notes that the Range Rover extended warranty is both cancelable and transferable, but specifics aren’t provided as far as fees associated with transferring or terminating coverage.

        Range Rover Extended Warranty Cost

To find the cost of a Range Rover extended warranty, we asked our local dealership. For a 2019 full-size Range Rover with 9,000 miles on it, we were offered a 6-year/100,000-mile warranty for $4,467 with a $200 disappearing deductible, meaning we’d pay nothing out of pocket if we took our vehicle to its selling dealership for repairs.

With a non-disappearing $200 deductible, we were quoted $4,041 for the same Range Rover extended warranty.

This is a fair price for a full-coverage warranty for a luxury vehicle. However, the cost of your own Range Rover warranty may differ depending on the type of Range Rover you drive, your vehicle’s age and mileage, and your location. Reach out to a local dealership for an accurate quote for your vehicle.

Regarding deductible options, we’ve read and heard some conflicting information. According to the representative we spoke with, the Range Rover extended warranty can come with four deductible choices: $0, $100, $200 and the $200 disappearing option we mentioned earlier. However, a brochure provided by Land Rover only mentioned $100 deductibles. Here, it’s best to default to your local dealer.

        What’s Not Covered?

Considering that the Land Rover extended warranty is so open-ended, there isn’t much information on what specific limitations are in place. However, we expect normal exclusions for things like routine maintenance and wear-and-tear parts will still apply.

One stipulation of the Range Rover extended warranty is that you must take your vehicle into a dealership for service. If you’re interested in taking advantage of the $200 disappearing deductible we mentioned above, you’ll need to return to the dealership you purchased your vehicle from. But if you choose another deductible option, you can go to any Land Rover dealer.

Although this may be an inconvenience if you live far from a Land Rover location, it guarantees that your Range Rover will only be worked on by factory-trained technicians using genuine Jaguar Land Rover parts.

Additional Perks of Range Rover Extended Warranty

The Range Rover extended warranty does not come with many additional perks included, but you may be able to add on Land Rover assistance for an additional fee. This is the same roadside assistance service that comes with Land Rover’s limited warranty coverage. With it, drivers can expect assistance with the following services:

        • Flat-tire changes
        • Fuel deliveries
        • Battery jump-starts
        • Lockout services

Is a Range Rover Extended Warranty Worth It?

Whether a Range Rover extended warranty is worth it for your vehicle will depend on a few different factors, like your existing factory warranty coverage as well as your car’s reliability. You should also consider the age and number of miles on your Range Rover.

        Range Rover’s Factory Warranty

To maximize the cost-effectiveness of an extended warranty, you don’t want to be paying for coverage you already have. As soon as you drive it off the lot, your new Range Rover is protected by the Land Rover New Vehicle Limited Warranty, a bumper-to-bumper plan that extends for 4 years/50,000 miles. Land Rover has elected to roll its powertrain warranty into its New Vehicle Limited Warranty, so your engine, transmission and driveshaft are also protected.

Additionally, your new Range Rover comes with 6 years/unlimited miles of corrosion/anti-perforation protection, up to 8 years/80,000 miles of emissions component coverage and 10 years/150,000 miles of hybrid battery protection.

Be aware that if you’re interested in purchasing Range Rover’s extended warranty, you’ll need to do so before your 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty expires.

        Land Rover Reliability

Your car’s reliability rating should also factor into your decision to buy an extended warranty. If you have a vehicle that’s prone to breakdowns or has issues with its electrical systems, you’ll want to put preventative measures in place to offset expensive repair costs.

According to RepairPal, a trusted repair estimate site, Range Rover vehicles score below average in terms of reliability. RepairPal gives Land Rovers a 2.5 out of 5.0 rating, ranking the manufacturer 31st out of 32 car brands. To get this score, RepairPal factors in the likelihood that Land Rovers will need severe repairs – 16% – as well as the frequency at which Land Rover owners take their vehicles into a repair shop – 0.7 times per year.

        Range Rover Repair Costs

On average, Range Rover drivers spend $1,258 on their vehicle’s repairs per year. Let’s look at common Range Rover repairs that could cause such a high bill, according to RepairPal:

        Range Rover RepairRepairPal Estimated Cost
        Water pump replacement$382 to $664
        Steering stabilizer replacement$161 to $171
Active suspension system air compressor replacement$1,198 to $1,213
Trans oil pan gasket replacement$425 to $494

Benefits of a Third-Party Extended Warranty

Considering what we’ve discussed about the Range Rover extended warranty, you might be interested in other options for long-term vehicle protection. With a third-party warranty provider, you’re given many customizable, comprehensive coverage options that make it easy to choose the right plan for your vehicle needs and budget. The main benefits for third-party companies include low costs, more repair shop options and flexible start dates.

        Cost

Manufacturers are known to tack on additional costs to extended warranties and push drivers to roll their warranty costs into their car payments and rack up interest. With a third-party provider like CarShield, it’s a safe bet that you’re getting cheaper coverage for your vehicle. Read more about why we consider this provider the best option for affordable coverage in our full CarShield review.

        Repair Shop Options

Rather than having to take your car into a local Land Rover dealership for repairs, third-party providers allow you to go to any dealership or licensed repair shop you trust. Some providers, such as CARCHEX, offer over 20,000 repair shop options to choose from. Learn more about coverage with CARCHEX in our in-depth CARCHEX review.

        Flexible Start Dates

If you don’t feel comfortable purchasing a Range Rover extended warranty after only four years of owning your car, third-party providers offer contracts that can start at nearly any point in your vehicle’s life. This means there’s no pressure to purchase coverage for a younger vehicle that may not experience as many frequent issues.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
