If you visit a dealership to buy a pre-owned BMW or Acura, you might be offered an extended service contract from NVP Warranty. It can be a smart idea to have a warranty to protect against emergency repair costs down the road, but is NVP Warranty a good company?
In this review, we’ll look at NVP Warranty’s customer service record, transparency, coverage options and more. We’ll also introduce you to some of the best extended car warranty providers we’ve reviewed for comparison. To find the best deal, we recommend getting free quotes from multiple reputable companies, which you can do above.
Is an NVP Warranty Worth It?
NVP Warranty is a relative newcomer to the extended warranty scene: It was founded in Ohio in 2012. The company offers plans through dealerships and agents only – it doesn’t sell directly to customers. NVP Warranty specializes in providing coverage for most performance and luxury vehicles, but not all.
NVP Warranty offers six plans, but it doesn’t offer any sample contracts online. It has an A rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with a 2.26 out of 5-star rating from customer reviews.
You can only get an NVP Warranty plan at a dealership when you purchase your vehicle, which doesn’t leave you much time to compare coverage options from multiple companies. According to the company’s BBB page, only drivers in 16 states can get NVP plans.

Is an NVP Warranty contract worth it? Because NVP Warranty doesn’t have great customer service reviews and you can only purchase plans through dealerships, we recommend looking for coverage elsewhere.
NVP Extended Car Warranty Coverage
NVP Warranty offers six plans that range from basic powertrain coverage to full bumper-to-bumper coverage (similar to a factory warranty). Plans can cover vehicles up to 225,000 miles, which is a good amount of coverage in the industry.
Here’s a summary of what each NVP Warranty plan covers:
Powertrain | 3-Star | 4-Star | 5-Star | Wrap | Exclusionary | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Engine | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |

Fluids and Filters | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | |||
Struts and Hinges | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | |||
Exclusionary | ✓ |
The Exclusionary plan covers any mechanical or electrical breakdown, unless the part is specifically excluded in your contract. Here are some examples of what an NVP Warranty doesn’t cover:
- Damage from misuse or lack of maintenance
- Regular maintenance services
- Wear items
- Cosmetic damage
Usually, extended warranties don’t cover normal wear and tear. However, NVP Warranty offers coverage for these components as an add-on option.
Also, be aware that covered components in each system may vary by plan. For example, the 5-Star plan covers many more electrical components than the 3-Star plan. Likewise, the Wrap plan is designed to fit around an existing powertrain warranty, so it covers very few engine and transmission components.
NVP Warranty Benefits
Unlike most extended warranty companies, NVP Warranty doesn’t provide the same benefits with each plan. Roadside assistance is included in 3-Star plans and above. Rental car coverage and diagnostic fees are included in 4-Star plans and above. Finally, trip interruption is included in 5-Star plans and above. Note that the Powertrain plan does not include any extra benefits, which is rare in the industry.
Also, the diagnostic fee benefit is really a downside in disguise. This benefit covers diagnostic fees only in the case of a covered repair. Most extended warranty companies do that for all their plans, so it’s odd that NVP Warranty only pays these fees for certain plans. For example, if your 3-Star plan covers a particular repair on the engine, you would still have to pay the diagnosis charge in addition to your deductible.
Cost of an NVP Warranty
Because NVP Warranty only sells contracts through select dealerships, it does not have sample pricing online, nor are you able to get a quote over the phone. Based on our research, the average extended warranty costs about $585 per year of coverage. Overall, warranty prices range from $1,700 to $4,000 for plans between three and seven years. You can use these numbers as a guideline if you come across an NVP Warranty quote.
Vehicle service contract prices are based on your vehicle. For example, if you’re purchasing a used vehicle or a more expensive model, the cost of your NVP Warranty contract will likely be higher.
How to Get a Quote and File a Claim
To get a quote for an NVP Warranty plan, you’ll need to contact an authorized dealership or agent. Most likely, you’ll come across NVP Warranty plans when you’re already in the process of buying a vehicle.
As we mentioned, that’s not the best time to purchase an extended warranty. There’s no reason for you to get an extended warranty the day that you purchase your vehicle, and you’ll find better prices by shopping around from different providers on your own schedule. NVP Warranty doesn’t specify a money-back guarantee period, but there may be one depending on the administrator.
To file a claim, you can call NVP Warranty’s claims number on weekdays and Saturdays. NVP Warranty will need to authorize the repair before any work can be done. You can go to any licensed repair facility in the U.S. or Canada, and NVP pays the repair shop directly, so all you pay is your deductible (and any applicable diagnostic fees).
If the repair is covered, you can claim any rental car or trip interruption benefits that apply. Be aware that most contracts require a waiting period of 30 days and 1,000 miles before you can use the coverage.
NVP Warranty Reviews
While NVP Warranty doesn’t have a huge number of reviews online (there are only about 20 on the BBB), it has a poor overall rating. Plus, it has more complaints than reviews, which isn’t a good sign.
Positive reviews talk about great customer service from representatives, while negative reviews mention unpaid claims and the hassle of paying diagnostic charges for covered repairs. Below are a few examples.
Positive NVP Reviews
“Great company, affordable prices. Good customer service, open late hours, easy transactions.”
– Robert M. via BBB
“[NVP] got the vehicle repairs covered 100 percent. [The company] reimbursed me for towing and a rental car. I will never again go to NE Auto, but NVP Warranty is a good company. I highly suggest if the service department is giving you issues, call NVP directly.”
– Rob M. via BBB
Negative NVP Reviews
“They don’t pay the average hourly rate for service, [and] they only cover the cheapest possible part. They will not fix something until it has completely failed, which might lead to damaging other parts, and they will not cover those items.”
– Steve T. via BBB
“The dealer I bought my car and warranty from actually ended up severing ties with this company due to my terrible experience with them. Don’t waste your money on this company!”
– Sarah L. via BBB
Our Verdict on NVP Warranty: 5.3 / 10.0
NVP Warranty offers six plans, which is a good assortment for any warranty company. However, two plans require you to pay diagnosis charges for covered repairs. NVP Warranty also doesn’t have great customer service ratings. For these reasons, we recommend you look for coverage with other providers.
Our Picks for Best Extended Car Warranties
Today, there are a number of providers that have great customer service reputations, transparency and coverage options. Because you can add coverage from reputable extended car warranty companies at any time, you don’t have to settle for the plan that’s offered to you at a dealership. Two such reliable providers are Endurance and Protect My Car.
Endurance: Best Provider
Endurance performs better than its competitors in multiple areas. Because it’s a direct provider, the claims process can be faster than with companies that work through a third-party administrator. Endurance pays diagnostic charges on covered repairs (like reputable companies should), and it offers six plans that all come with an impressive list of extra benefits.
Most drivers have positive experiences with Endurance: Reviewers on Trustpilot give the company 4.2 out of 5.0 stars. You can learn more about this provider in our Endurance warranty review, and click below to get a free, personalized quote from Endurance.
Protect My Car: Best Long-Term Financing
Another provider that we rate highly is Protect My Car. The company has been in business for 15 years and has a 4.69 out of 5-star rating from customers on the BBB. Protect My Car offers three standard coverage options, plus three plans that combine regular maintenance and repair coverage. This gives drivers a different way to protect their cars (pun intended).
In researching quotes from Protect My Car, we found that the company offers the longest payment terms in the industry – up to 48 months. This can help drivers stay under budget even with a long-lasting bumper-to-bumper extended warranty.

Methodology
The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.
We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
