A Google search for “extended warranty” will yield so many results that it can be hard to move forward. In your search, you may have come across Infinite Auto Protection, a vehicle service contract provider that promises to help drivers pay for repairs. But is it a good company? Is Infinite Auto Protection worth it? This Infinite Car Warranty Review provides helpful information on Infinite Auto’s extended warranty plans, coverage, and pricing.

To help drivers make sense of the crowded market, we’ve reviewed a number of the best extended car warranty companies. Start by getting quotes from multiple companies to find the best plan for you.

        Infinite Auto Protection

Infinite Auto Protection has been around since 2008 and provides extended warranties for used cars, dealing directly with car owners rather than through a middleman like service contract brokers do.s. The company offers three levels of contracts and gives customers flexible payment terms. We’ll get into the details of its plans and compare the company to leading extended warranty providers below.

        • Company Name: Infinite Auto Protection
        • Year Founded: 2008
        • Headquartered in: Romulus, Michigan
        • BBB Accredited: Accredited in 2018 and A+ BBB rating

Below is how we rate this providers across our categories:

        Infinite Auto Protection Extended Warranty

Infinite Auto Protection is a direct vehicle service contract provider, which means there is no middleman to deal with after you purchase a plan. The company covers vehicles up to 140,000 miles, which is a good amount compared to the industry. It guarantees 100% payment of covered repairs – of course, not everything is considered a covered repair. Be sure to read the contract to fully understand what items are included. A sample contract is available online.

Infinite Auto Protection offers three levels of protection: Foundation, Modern, and Prime. Each of these let you go to any licensed repair facility. Plans may require a deductible, which is usually $100. Below are descriptions of each plan:

        Foundation

is the basic level. It covers mechanical failure of the engine, transmission, 4×4 or all-wheel drive, drive axle, electrical system, cooling system, brakes (non-ABS), and differential assembly.

        Modern

The Modern level covers all eight items in the Foundation level and adds the steering system

        Prime

The Prime level is by far the most comprehensive level of coverage. Along with all the items covered at the Foundation and Modern levels, it also includes:

        • Super/turbo charger
        • Fuel system
        • Heater and air conditioning
        • Front and rear suspension
        • ABS brakes

Additionally, the Prime level includes what it lists as “hi-tech” components, which range from the temperature control program and fuel injectors, to motors for most power functions (door locks, power windows, and antennas), to the factory-installed GPS navigation module and factory-installed monitoring cameras.

Here’s a comparison between the three levels:

        Covered PartsPrimeModernFoundation

        Transmission✓✓✓
        Four-wheel and all-wheel drive✓✓✓

        Turbo/supercharger✓
        Fuel system✓
        Heating and air conditioning✓
        Front and rear suspension✓
        Anti-lock braking system✓

All of these plans use stated-component contracts, which means each covered item is written down. The highest level of coverage in the industry is called exclusionary, and that’s what manufacturers’ warranties provide. Exclusionary contracts cover so many items that they only list the non-covered parts. Many other third-party warranty companies offer exclusionary coverage, too.

Ironically, Infinite Auto Protection doesn’t actually provide the highest level of coverage in the industry. Now, not all third-party warranty companies offer exclusionary coverage. It’s just interesting considering the name of this provider.

Also, each plan covers the exact same parts under each of these systems. For example, the Modern plan doesn’t cover any more parts in the engine than the Foundation plan.

The Prime plan covers 15 systems, Modern covers nine and Foundation covers eight. The high-tech option on the Prime plan, in particular, is nice to have. It covers many electrical items like power window motors and control switches. Plus, the plan covers GPS navigation, front- and rear-facing cameras, and convertible top motors. Third-party providers don’t always cover convertible and sunroof motors, so that’s good to see.

You can look at a sample contract on Infinite Auto Protection’s website for more information. You should always read through a sample contract before making a purchasing decision.

What Infinite Auto Protection Doesn’t Cover

Since these are all stated-component contracts, if you don’t see an item on the coverage list, it’s not covered. At the same time, these plans have common exclusions that go beyond mechanical parts.

When shopping for coverage, always look at the list of exclusions. You could find a cheap plan, but it would be useless if it excludes too many things. You can find the list of exclusions on Infinite Auto Protection’s contract, but here are a few examples:

        • Cosmetic items
        • Damage from misuse or lack of maintenance
        • Regular maintenance
        • Wear items like hoses and brake pads
        • Pre-existing conditions
        • Corrosion, overheating and environmental events
        • Improper use of fuels or fluids

Remember, warranties and vehicle service contracts exist to cover defective parts that fail before they should. Infinite Auto Protection might not cover parts that have failed after their average expected lifetime, since that’s wear and tear.

When you go to a repair shop, Infinite Auto Protection may request the service history for your car. From the company’s point of view, they don’t want to pay to replace something that wouldn’t have failed if you were taking good care of your vehicle.

It’s extremely important to stay on top of routine maintenance, including oil changes. Infinite Auto Protection could deny coverage if you have gone too long without changing the oil. And if the company finds that a certain issue is either your fault or had existed before you bought the plan, it won’t cover any additional failures that happen because of that issue.

        Plan Benefits

Industry-wide, it’s rare for a company not to offer any additional benefits with a vehicle service contract. Infinite Auto Protection is no different, but it doesn’t necessarily go above and beyond in this area. Here are the additional benefits that come with coverage for your vehicle:

        • Roadside assistance: Infinite Auto Protection will reimburse you up to specific amounts for towing, jump-starts or fuel delivery. It will only cover one spare tire change fee per year.
        • Trip interruption: The company will reimburse you up to $50 for three days if a breakdown happens more than 100 miles from your home.
        • Rental car coverage: Infinite Auto Protection will reimburse you up to $35 per day for six days. One day of rental car reimbursement requires six hours of repair shop time.

These benefits are average compared to other providers. One thing to notice is that the roadside assistance coverage will only reimburse you after you’ve already paid for roadside help from another company. Infinite Auto Protection plans don’t come with a dedicated roadside assistance number.

The trip interruption and rental car allowances are also fairly standard compared to other companies. Of course, you shouldn’t buy an extended auto warranty just based on the perks. You should base it more on the company’s reputation and the covered items under the contract.

        Infinite Auto Protection Cost

Infinite Auto Protection offers online quotes, but they aren’t instant. That means you’ll have to wait to hear back from an agent to find out what you would pay. Infinite Auto Protection prices are based on:

        • The year, make and model of your car
        • How much coverage you want
        • The current mileage of your car
        • The deductible amount you select

Generally speaking, the same coverage will cost more for a car with higher mileage than a car with lower mileage. The same can also be said for cars that are more expensive to repair.

In other words, you’ll pay more for a warranty plan if your car needs specialized (and more expensive) European parts. You can check out websites like RepairPal, Edmunds.com and J.D. Power for reliability ratings and average repair costs to see how your car stacks up.

Looking at customer reviews on the Better Business Bureau (BBB), one customer reported paying $2,000 for a five-year, “full coverage” warranty, which we assume is the Prime plan. Another said they paid $77 per month for coverage. Both of these plans sound affordable, though other variables are lacking to make a good assessment.

        Claims, Cancellations and Transfers

Infinite Auto Protection’s claims process is similar to many other extended car warranty providers. You can choose any certified repair facility, but make sure you give them Infinite Auto Protection’s phone number when you get there.

Infinite Auto Protection needs to approve a covered breakdown before the shop can get to work. After you file a claim, an adjuster may come and inspect the vehicle to determine coverage.

You’ll have to pay for any diagnosis charges if the repair isn’t covered. After the shop repairs your car, you’ll pay your deductible to them. Infinite Auto Protection will pay the rest of the claim directly to the repair shop.

Like most companies, Infinite Auto Protection has a 30-day guarantee. You can cancel a plan from Infinite Auto Protection within 30 days for a full refund. If you’ve used the plan during that time, you’ll get a prorated refund based on mileage, time and claims. If you cancel beyond 30 days, you’ll have to pay a $25 cancellation fee, and you’ll get a prorated refund.

You can also transfer an auto warranty to a secondary driver for a $50 transfer fee. If you ever want to sell your car, an extended warranty can help you get the full asking price.

        Infinite Auto Protection Reviews

Overall, Infinite Auto Protection customer reviews are mixed. The company has a four-star rating on Trustpilot from 91 reviewers and a two-star rating from 36 customer reviews on the BBB. It also has an A rating with accreditation from the BBB.

There just aren’t that many reviews for this company out there. Some other companies have hundreds or thousands of reviews, so only a fraction of Infinite Auto Protection’s customers may be leaving reviews.

Many Infinite Auto Protection complaints are about misunderstanding exactly what’s covered under the contract or claims not being paid. On the other hand, many positive reviews are about good customer service and low prices.

        Positive Reviews

“I have been working with Infinite Auto Protection for a while now. We have never had a claim denied. I just set up a contract with my wife’s car for three years.”

        – Jason G., BBB

“They approved and paid my claim, but I had all the records they asked for. Read the contract and keep all service records, and you will be OK.”

        – Gregg W., BBB

        Negative Reviews

“This company will not provide coverage as agreed to and will take your money.”

        – Kelly R., BBB

“After taking my vehicle in for service, it took them two weeks to respond and send out an adjuster who denied every claim. The contract coverage description reads that Infinite will cover everything that is wrong with my vehicle.”

        – Christopher M., BBB

Let’s unpack this last review a bit. The reviewer was under the impression that Infinite Auto Protection would cover anything that went wrong. A customer service agent responded and said the contract doesn’t say that.

Unfortunately, the company’s website may be a bit misleading. On the homepage, it reads: “Infinite Auto Protection guarantees 100% payment of all covered repairs less any deductible…”

The two words “covered repairs” are of utmost importance. If someone just skims this guarantee, it looks like Infinite Auto Protection promises to cover everything. In fact, it only pays for the explicitly covered parts. That’s why it’s so important to read the actual contract thoroughly.

To Infinite Auto Protection’s credit, the customer service team responds to all negative BBB reviews and most Trustpilot reviews and offers an explanation or directions for resolution.

Conclusion: Is Infinite Auto Protection Worth It?

If you understand exactly what’s covered in your contract with Infinite Auto Protection, we think the company is a good option. It has a reputation for low prices, and you get some extra perks, as well.

While it takes some effort to get multiple extended car warranty quotes, there’s definitely a reward. There’s no one-size-fits-all contract, and other companies can provide different things that Infinite Auto Protection can’t.

CarShield is a well-known provider we’ve reviewed with almost 9,000 ratings on Trustpilot. It offers exclusionary plans comparable to your car’s factory warranty, as do Endurance, CARCHEX and Protect My Car.

        Conclusion

        • Best for: People who own used cars.
        • Claims payments: Infinite Auto Protection guarantees to pay 100% of covered repair costs minus the deductible you owe. The payment will be made directly to the dealer or auto shop you choose to do the repairs, so you don’t have to pay first and wait for reimbursement.
        • Roadside assistance: Infinite Auto Protection provides 24/7 roadside assistance and will cover towing and a rental car if your car needs covered repairs. Specifically, the company will reimburse you for up to $100 for towing if you have a mechanical breakdown and up to $35 a day in rental car reimbursement for up to six days, depending on how long it takes to repair your car.
        • Transferability: If you are the original purchaser of the extended warranty contract, you can transfer it to a subsequent. There is a $50 processing fee, and you must include notarized documentation of the sale. You also may be able to transfer the contract to a different car, although there may be additional fees.
        • Maintenance records: You are required to maintain your vehicle following the maintenance schedule published by the manufacturer. Be sure to retain service records in case the company asks you to prove the maintenance was performed at a licensed repair facility.
        • 30-day no-fee cancellation: If you cancel within the first 30 days of the contract period, you can receive a full refund as long as you haven’t received any services under the contract.
        • Free quote: The company will provide a no-obligation quote online or by telephone.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
