Can ForeverCar protect your car forever? Well, not exactly. But it still offers decent coverage options and has a record for good customer service.

ForeverCar has four different vehicle service plans, which come with a few perks. We’ll get into the details of what the warranties cover here. If you’re shopping around for an extended warranty, the best thing to do is compare quotes from multiple companies. You can start by getting free quotes from some of the best extended car warranty providers in the industry above.

Is a ForeverCar Extended Warranty Worth It?

ForeverCar has been around since 2014. Originally, it started as a warranty comparison website. Later on, it began to offer its own auto services as it partnered with companies like CUNA Mutual Group, SafeAuto and Liberty Mutual.

Today, ForeverCar offers vehicle protection plans that are administered by other companies like Consumer Program Administrators. Contracts are available in every state except California and Washington.

ForeverCar’s extended warranty options are unique in the industry because the company doesn’t limit mileage on any of its plans. At the same time, it doesn’t offer long plans either – the maximum term is three years, at which point your contract goes up for renewal.

Is a Forever Car extended warranty worth it? Overall, ForeverCar has good customer service and is a decent choice for coverage. We recommend getting a quote and comparing it against prices from other top companies.

        ForeverCar Extended Car Warranty Coverage

ForeverCar offers four distinct plans, and they all have one term duration: 3 years/unlimited miles. ForeverCar doesn’t cover cars over 10 years/150,000 miles. Some providers cover up to 20 years or 250,000 miles, so you might want to keep searching if you have a high-mileage vehicle.

On its website, ForeverCar lists the fact that it doesn’t provide any long-term contracts as an advantage. We think this could really go either way. It’s nice that you don’t have to feel locked into a long plan for the next decade, but that also means you’ll have to stitch together multiple contracts to cover a long period of time if that’s what you want to do. Let’s look at what ForeverCar plans include.

        Platinum Plus

The Platinum Plus plan is a typical exclusionary contract that covers any mechanical breakdown on the vehicle except a list of excluded items. The plan is comparable to a factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. What makes this a “Plus” plan is that it also covers a number of wear items, or “wearables,” as ForeverCar calls them, including:

        • Wipers
        • Fuses
        • Light bulbs
        • Brake pads
        • Belts and hoses
        • Vehicle battery

        Platinum

The Platinum plan is a standard bumper-to-bumper exclusionary contract without any extra coverage for wear items. Here are a few examples of exclusions:

        • Damage from misuse or lack of maintenance
        • Cosmetic damage or auto accidents
        • Damage to a covered part caused by a non-covered part failure
        • Diagnosis charges if the car repair isn’t covered
        • Aftermarket accessories and modifications
        • Normal wear and tear

        Gold

The Gold plan is a stated-component contract, which lists out every item that’s covered. If an item isn’t on the list, it isn’t covered. This plan covers the powertrain and parts on a number of additional systems, including:

        • Engine
        • Transmission
        • Drive axles
        • Steering
        • Front suspension
        • Brakes (not brake pads)
        • Electrical components
        • Air conditioning
        • Basic hybrid components
        • Seals and gaskets
        • Advanced electrical and hybrid components

Keep in mind that the contract lists specific covered parts in each of these systems. In other words, not every part of these systems is covered.

        Silver

This is ForeverCar’s most basic plan, but it still covers more than a standard powertrain warranty, which would only cover the engine, transmission and drive axle. Covered systems include:

        • Engine
        • Transmission
        • Drive axles
        • Steering
        • Front suspension
        • Brakes (not brake pads)
        • Electrical components
        • Air conditioning
        • Basic hybrid components
        • Seals and gaskets

        ForeverCar Plan Benefits

Like many providers, ForeverCar offers a few perks with all plans:

        • Roadside assistance: Up to $100 per occurrence for towing, jump-starts, fluid deliveries, flat tire services and lockout services
        • Travel expense reimbursement: Up to $200 per day (five day maximum) for food, lodging and transportation expenses when you have a breakdown 100 miles from home or more
        • Rental reimbursement: Up to $35 per day for a maximum of five days (10 days if parts are delayed) toward a rental car while your car is in the shop for a covered repair

Cost of a ForeverCar Extended Warranty

To get more insight into the cost of a ForeverCar extended warranty, we reached out to the company for quotes for three cars. Each vehicle qualified for different plans.

        VehicleMileageForeverCar PlanWarranty TermMonthly CostDeductible
        2018 Toyota RAV430,000 milesPlatinum Plus3 years/
        unlimited miles
        $61.50$0 or $100
        2012 Chevrolet Equinox90,000 milesSilver3 years/
        unlimited miles
        $154.50$250
        2011 Hyundai Sonata65,000 milesGold3 years/
        unlimited miles
        $85.50$250

For Platinum Plus, Platinum and Gold plans, you can choose from deductibles of $0, $100, $250 or $500. A $0 deductible is not available for the Silver plan.

Based on our research, choosing a $500 deductible would lower the monthly cost by $6, and choosing a $0 deductible would raise the monthly cost by $55.50. If you’ve shopped for car insurance, you may be familiar with how the deductible changes the total cost. It’s nice that ForeverCar can give drivers the option to do that with its warranty.

At the end of a three-year term, you have the option to renew your contract. However, ForeverCar will base the new monthly price on your car’s current mileage and condition. You can expect to pay more for the same coverage level the second time around.

How to Get a Quote and File a Claim

To get a quote, you’ll start by providing basic information about you and your vehicle. Then, you’ll see a list of ForeverCar plans that your car is eligible for. At that point, you can select a plan and deductible you’re comfortable with.

After that, you need to schedule an inspection with ForeverCar. This is required for all plans. ForeverCar does this to keep prices low for its drivers, since it won’t cover cars that have too many pre-existing conditions. If the inspection reveals a pre-existing condition with your car, you may have the option to continue with the plan without coverage for that particular part or system. There is a 30-day waiting period for all plans, and if you cancel within 30 days, you’ll get a full refund. After 30 days, you can cancel for a prorated refund.

To file a claim, you can contact your plan administrator directly. If you need help, you can get in touch with one of ForeverCar’s “Protectionators” by phone, email or chat. ForeverCar works with a wide network of repair shops, so you can go to any licensed shop or dealership for repairs.

When you get to a repair facility, give them your vehicle service contract. They will verify coverage with your administrator prior to starting any work. For covered repairs, you’ll just pay your deductible after the work is complete.

        ForeverCar Extended Warranty Reviews

According to online reviews, many customers have positive experiences with ForeverCar. The company has a 4.8 rating from nearly 3,000 reviews on Trustpilot, and it also has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with accreditation.

        Positive ForeverCar Reviews

“Just purchased my service agreement. Price was good. [The] website was informative, thorough, and the quote easy to obtain. No high-pressure sales techniques. Coverage seems excellent.”

        – T. Shehan via Trustpilot

“I took my car to McGrath Lexus for repairs. ForeverCar stood by their extended warranty and without any hassle. I am very pleased with the service and I will recommend them to others.”

        – Freddie S. via Trustpilot

        Negative ForeverCar Reviews

“My car has been sitting for over a week now and the warranty company will not approve a rental car for me because they have not approved my claim.”

        – Alida F. via BBB

“Purchased a drivetrain plan through this company. [The] engine light came on, I took it to the dealership, and it’s the clutch. And guess what, somehow that isn’t covered. I understand I should have read it closer. But how is the clutch (on an automatic vehicle!) not covered?”

        – Lynn M. via BBB

        Our Verdict on ForeverCar: 8.3 / 10.0

At the end of the day, ForeverCar is a reputable provider, and we like that the company’s plans come with the standard perks and that there’s an option that covers items like windshield wiper blades and brake pads. However, coverage tops out at 150,000 miles, and contracts only last for three years. ForeverCar can be a good option for many car owners, but people with older cars will need to keep shopping around.

Our Picks for Best Extended Car Warranties

If you choose to get a ForeverCar quote, it’s always a good idea to get pricing from a few other companies as well – it’s the only way to know if you’ve found the best auto warranty for your situation.

As with ForeverCar, we’ve rated many top providers on reputation, coverage, cost, transparency and customer experience. Two companies that stand out are Endurance and CarShield.

        Endurance: Best Provider

Endurance is a direct warranty provider, which means you only work with Endurance when filing a claim. The company offers six levels of coverage that can last up to 200,000 miles. The highest plan, Supreme, is an exclusionary warranty similar to a factory-bumper-to-bumper warranty. It covers any part of the car except for a list of exclusions.

        CarShield: Most Affordable

CarShield is another of our recommended extended warranty providers. The company offers six plans that come with extras like roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement. It’s one of the most popular warranty companies with nearly 15,000 reviews on Trustpilot.

Where CarShield really stands out is cost. In our CarShield review, we found quotes that were hundreds of dollars cheaper than other top providers and came with affordable monthly payment terms. CarShield can definitely be worth it for budget-conscious drivers.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
