When you purchase a new Dodge from the dealership, it’s covered against any defects in materials or workmanship for the first few years of ownership. But exactly what parts does the Dodge warranty cover, and how long does coverage last?

To make sure your vehicle is protected, it’s smart to know the ins and outs of your warranty. Read on to learn more about coverage from the manufacturer and what options are available to you after your factory warranty expires.

The Detroit Bureau’s research team identified
        the best extended warranty options.

        Dodge Warranty Coverage Overview

The Dodge warranty covers new vehicles for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you experience a covered mechanical breakdown due to a defect in material or workmanship, Dodge will pay for your repairs. The warranty also includes powertrain coverage for 5 years/60,000 miles.

        Dodge WarrantyCoverage Terms
Basic Limited WarrantyAlso called a bumper-to-bumper warranty,
this coverage protects most parts and systems for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Powertrain Limited WarrantyDodge’s powertrain warranty covers the engine, transmission
and drive systems for 5 years/60,000 miles.
        Mopar® Parts and Accessories
        Limited Warranties
Certain Mopar parts such as starters, alternators
and catalytic converters have their own warranties.
Roadside Assistance2017 and newer Dodges are covered for 5 years/60,000 miles for things like battery jump-starts,
roadside fuel delivery, flat tire services and towing.

Additionally, in California, any emissions-related part is covered by the warranty in alignment with the state’s requirements.

What’s Not Covered by a Dodge Warranty?

The Dodge warranty does not cover repairs associated with routine maintenance or natural wear and tear. Other exclusions include:

        • Regular maintenance costs
        • Modifications made after purchase
        • Lack of proper maintenance
        • Damage from fire or accidents
        • Damage from environmental factors
        • Damage from racing
        • Corrosion caused by chemicals, accidents or environmental factors

        Dodge Certified Pre-Owned Warranty

Every Dodge Certified Pre-Owned vehicle undergoes a 125-point inspection and a thorough reconditioning process. Vehicles are then covered by a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 3-month/3,000-mile Maximum Care Coverage plan.

CPO vehicles receive roadside and towing assistance and a rental car allowance.

How to Check If You Have a Dodge Warranty

If you purchased your Dodge vehicle from a source other than the dealership, the Dodge factory warranty may still be in place. It is best to contact your nearest dealership with your car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) and mileage. A representative will be able to tell you if you are still covered under Dodge’s warranty.

If your warranty has expired, you can look into extended warranty coverage from Mopar or from an extended warranty company to ensure you are protecting your vehicle in the long term.

Is an Extended Warranty Worth It for Dodge Vehicles?

Dodge’s factory warranty only covers your vehicle for so long. But is an extended warranty worth it? Let’s take a look at three of the most common repair costs for Dodge vehicles and their prices, according to RepairPal.

        Dodge ModelRepairEstimated Cost
        Dodge B150Neutral safety switch replacement$67 – $78
        Dodge ChallengerAir bag clockspring replacement$366 – $387
        Dodge D250Power steering hose replacement$271 – $288

RepairPal reports that the average annual cost of repairs for Dodge vehicles is $634 and gives the brand a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5.0, which is slightly above average.

Repairs for Dodges tend to be more expensive than other popular makes. For reference, the average annual repair costs for Honda and Hyundai are $428 and $468, respectively. An extended Dodge warranty can help offset the cost of repairs due to mechanical breakdowns.

        Dodge Extended Warranty Overview

The Dodge extended warranty from the dealership comes in two varieties: Mopar Maximum CareSM and Mopar Added Care Plus. Terms can last up to 8 years or 125,000 miles with deductible options of $0, $100, and $200.

As you might expect, Maximum Care covers more components similar to a factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. Added Care Plus covers 850 components including the engine, transmission, drivetrain, steering and cooling.

The Dodge extended warranty plans from Mopar include towing and roadside assistance, rental car allowance, key fob replacement, and trip interruption protection. They also come with the benefit of having certified, factory-trained technicians work on your vehicle for any repairs. Some Mopar plans are transferable with a fee.

Benefits of a Third-Party Extended Warranty

An extended warranty from the dealership isn’t your only option for protection, and we always recommend getting more than one quote when shopping for coverage. Third-party warranty companies provide a number of benefits such as many coverage levels to choose from, affordable pricing, and the ability to have your car serviced at any authorized repair shop nationwide.

Our team has done all the research on the best extended car warranty providers on the market. We recommend comparing free quotes from top providers such as Endurance and CARCHEX to get the best price and coverage for your Dodge.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car warranty provider to formulate rankings of the best warranty companies. Our in-depth rating system takes into account coverage, pricing, transparency, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each provider is given a weighted score in five categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto warranty companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
