When comparing auto insurers, the discounts that Esurance provides may significantly influence your decision. While the company has fewer opportunities to save than many other options, it’s worth learning whether you could be eligible for lower prices from Esurance.

Our experts reviewed the best auto insurance companies to find out which ones have the most impressive overall prices. While finding out the discounts that Esurance provides is a great way to save, you’ll also want to compare quotes from various insurers to find your lowest rates.

What Discounts Are Available From Esurance?

While relatively limited in scope, there are a few discounts that Esurance does provide. We’ll list off a few of the most popular ones in the table below. Make sure to reach out to your Esurance insurance agent to learn if you could qualify for additional savings.

        Esurance DiscountsDiscount Description
Fast 5® discountOffered to new policyholders who purchase an Esurance policy online
Multi-policy discountLowers prices for those with Esurance renters insurance and offers homeowners discounts if you bundle with an Esurance auto policy
Pay in full discountLowers prices for drivers who pay their entire policy off at the start rather than every month
PayPal account discountGives discount rates to motorists who have an active PayPal account

While Esurance has offered a Pac-12 discount in the past for students at its schools, all details of the program have been removed from the provider’s website. That said, drivers who attend Pac-12 schools such as Arizona State, Washington, Colorado, Utah and University of California, Berkeley should consider asking about potential savings.

The discounts that Esurance provides aren’t very impressive compared to those from many other car insurance companies. It’s worth asking your local agency whether there might be additional ways to save that aren’t listed on the Esurance website.

What Are Some Common Auto Insurance Discounts?

Esurance car insurance policies don’t offer many savings opportunities compared to other insurance coverage providers. Below, we’ll run through a few discounts that could be found by getting free quotes beyond those for Esurance auto insurance.

Remember that these discounts aren’t mentioned on the Esurance website. Most likely, you’ll need to reach out to another insurer to take advantage of these savings.

        • Vehicle safety device discount: Many car insurers offer an anti-lock brakes discount along with an air bags discount for vehicles with these safety features.
        • Anti-theft device discount: Drivers take advantage of the anti-theft discount by having vehicles equipped with working security devices.
        • Defensive driver discount: Those who take defensive driving courses or who enroll in driver’s education classes sometimes receive lowered car insurance quotes.
        • Good driver discount: Often known as the claim-free discount, this opportunity gives motorists reduced insurance premiums if they’ve gone a certain number of years without getting a driving violation.
        • Good student discount: Full-time high school and college students often get rewarded for having at least a B average in all of their classes.
        • Multi-car discount: Those who insure more than one vehicle through a single provider will see somewhat lower prices for the policy on each car.

Remember that you likely won’t receive these savings opportunities with your Esurance quote. Check with your local agent just in case or consider getting quotes from other providers.

Does Esurance Have the Same Discounts as Allstate?

No, Esurance does not provide the same discounts as Allstate. While Allstate owns Esurance and both companies offer similar auto insurance policies, you’ll receive different car insurance rates and savings opportunities from each one.

Keep in mind that there are usually more coverage options available from Allstate versus through Esurance.

Other Ways To Save With Esurance

While Esurance doesn’t provide the most robust list of discounts, there are ways to reduce car insurance costs with pretty much any provider. Two of your best options are to cut back on coverage and to increase your deductible.

        Reduce Your Car Insurance Coverage

If you’ve currently got full coverage auto insurance, it may be possible for you to reduce your insurance limits. You’ll still need to carry the minimum liability car insurance that’s required by your state’s department of motor vehicles (DMV), but anything above that is extra. Remember that you’ll receive fewer benefits post-accident if you reduce your coverage.

Drivers aren’t required to carry collision coverage, comprehensive coverage and personal injury protection or medical payments insurance in every state. Add-ons such as roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement aren’t necessary either. Just make sure that you understand the downsides of reduced coverage before you start cutting back.

        Increase Your Auto Insurance Deductible

It’s also possible for you to increase your deductible to lower monthly payments. Once again, this will require you to pay more out of pocket after an accident occurs. It’s up to you to determine whether it’s worth taking on this risk or not with your Esurance policy.

        What Is Esurance DriveSense®?

One of the top discounts that Esurance provides is its DriveSense telematics program. You’ll need to download the company’s app and let it track your driving habits to get lowered rates. DriveSense is a program that rewards Esurance customers who practice safe driving habits.

Note that only responsible drivers will receive benefits by downloading the mobile app and registering for DriveSense. Those who drive aggressively, speed often and have bad driving records likely won’t get reduced rates. DriveSense is also the wrong choice if you don’t want Esurance to have the ability to track you while on the road.

For the DriveSense discount to be applied, you must make at least 50 trips with the app each term. Your discount will be customized based on your driving habits. While you can stop participating in the program at any time, this will cause you to lose your safe driver discount.

        Our Recommendations for Auto Insurance

Now that you are familiar with the discounts that Esurance provides, it’s smart to also consider getting multiple auto insurance quotes from GEICO, Progressive and State Farm. These providers are known for having competitive rates and each insurer has extensive discount opportunities.

        GEICO: Best Overall

Our team gave GEICO 9.1 stars out of 10.0 because of its consistently low rates and impressive depth of coverage. GEICO offers a telematics program known as DriveEasy along with discounts for federal employees, military members, insuring multiple vehicles and for having a car with safety features.

        Progressive: Best for High-Risk Drivers

Progressive is generally considered to be a top choice for high-risk drivers. That’s because the company is known to accept those with speeding tickets, at-fault accidents and DUI violations on their driving records. The Snapshot® program is a simple way for drivers to find plans from Progressive that fit their financial and coverage needs. Make sure to read our Progressive insurance review to determine whether it’s the right provider for you.

        State Farm: Best Student Discounts

Policyholders often name State Farm as a company that offers quality customer service and easily customizable car insurance policies. The company’s usage-based insurance program, Drive Safe & Save™, can lead to considerable discounts. State Farm has a reputation for providing savings for young and teen drivers, so it’s definitely worth a look for these groups.

        Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which auto insurance company is more affordable than Esurance?

GEICO and State Farm are two options that tend to be more affordable than Esurance. That’s not always true, though, so compare auto insurance quotes from several companies before making your final decision.

How can I get a discount on my car insurance?

As you compare cheap auto insurance quotes, research which discounts each provider offers. Many offer discounts for good students, for having multiple vehicles or policies and for completing defensive driving courses.

Which auto insurance company offers the most discounts?

GEICO is one of the companies with the most potential car insurance discounts. It’s important to look at how many of these discounts you qualify for along with how much you’ll likely receive in savings from your potential insurer.

Does Esurance offer a military discount?

No, Esurance does not offer its policyholders a military discount. Many providers across the insurance industry do offer savings for military members, veterans and their families. Make sure to consider other options if you’re affiliated with the military and are looking for a discount.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car insurance provider to formulate rankings of the best insurers. Our in-depth rating system takes into account market share, coverage, auto insurance rate estimates generated by Quadrant Information Services, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each insurer is given a weighted score in four categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto insurance companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
