During your hunt for great auto insurance rates, you have undoubtedly stumbled across the name Progressive. As one of the nation’s largest insurers, Progressive is generally well known and highly regarded. But what is Progressive Direct auto insurance, and is it any good?

Below, we give you a crash course on Progressive Direct, including what the offering includes and whether it varies from traditional coverage with Progressive.

When it comes to shopping for car insurance, our team has done the heavy lifting for you and researched the biggest names in the industry. We have rated the best car insurance companies and can help you find the right provider for your auto insurance needs. To go ahead and start comparing free quotes, enter your zip code above.

What Is Progressive Direct Auto Insurance?

Progressive Direct allows you to purchase an insurance policy without interacting with an agent in person. As the name implies, you are dealing directly with the organization and are cutting out the middleman.

If you obtain a traditional Progressive policy, you will need to work with an agent. This agent will walk you through the purchasing process and be able to answer specific questions about your policy.

Progressive Direct is becoming an increasingly popular choice among drivers. However, it is essential that you understand its benefits and limitations before purchasing a Progressive Direct policy.

        Progressive Direct Pros and Cons

Pros: If you are a savvy shopper, Progressive Direct can be appealing. You can obtain a quote, customize your coverage, and make payments all from your phone or computer. As your insurance needs change, you can make updates to your existing policy efficiently.

In addition, you will not have to use an agent as a go-between. This can save you money and reduce your monthly premium. Also noteworthy is that Progressive will send you all your necessary documents electronically, so you can go entirely paperless. You can even manage your account and access documents from a user-friendly mobile app.

Cons: The primary drawback to Progressive Direct is that your provider is the company itself. You will not have in-person access to a local agent who handles your auto insurance, nor will you be able to schedule an in-person meeting with a representative in order to review your policy. Any policy or account questions must be addressed solely through phone or email communication.

How Much Does Progressive Direct Auto Insurance Cost?

Progressive Direct auto insurance rates vary from traditional Progressive policies. This is primarily due to the fact that you are not using an agent. Remote communication is more cost-effective for Progressive, and so they pass some of those savings on to you.

Many factors will influence the cost of your coverage, which we will discuss in further detail below. These factors may include discounts, past driving history, and even your geographical location.

        Progressive Direct Auto Insurance Discounts

Progressive is known for offering comprehensive discounts to customers. The company provides flexible coverage options to meet the needs of virtually any driver. When you’re obtaining your quote, be sure to review any potential discounts to determine which ones you may qualify for. Some of the company’s most popular discounts include:

        • Loyalty: As the name implies, this discount is for customers who have shown loyalty to the company. Progressive’s loyalty discounts are divided into tiers based on the total number of years you’ve spent with the company. For instance, you may receive a discount after three, five, or 10 years of coverage.
        • Multi-Car: If you have multiple cars on your policy, Progressive will discount your policy. While these discounts may seem relatively minor, they can quickly add up to hundreds of dollars in savings throughout the year.
        • Multi-Driver: Progressive is a good insurance option for large families because it offer a multi-driver discount. If you are preparing to add a few teen drivers to your policy, you may want to get a quote from Progressive.
        • Military/Government/First Responder: Progressive offers rate discounts for multiple professions, including members of the armed forces, first responders, and government employees. You may even be eligible for an employer specific discount if your place of work has partnered with Progressive.
        • Paperless: Progressive offers savings for going paperless. If you opt for email communication, you will receive a reduced rate. You can also save up to 15% if you pay your total premium in one lump sum.

Get a Progressive Direct Auto Insurance Quote Online

Getting a Progressive Direct auto insurance quote is quick and easy when you use the quote tool on the provider’s website or a quote comparison tool to get rates from multiple leading providers.

When creating your quotes, insurance companies analyze a variety of factors. The goal of this analysis is to assess risk. These factors may include:

        • Zip code
        • Driving record
        • Credit score
        • Marital status
        • Age and gender
        • Vehicle make and model
        • Type of coverage needed

For example, if you live in a high-traffic area and have a subpar driving record, your rates will be higher. On the other hand, drivers that live in rural areas and have a spotless driving record will typically receive reduced rates.

Progressive Direct Industry Ratings and Reviews

Progressive Direct is highly rated within the insurance industry. The company received an A+ rating from AM Best, which points to its financial stability.

Progressive is generally well reviewed by customers. The company receives praise for its multitude of discounts, mobile app, and paperless options. However, some customers have reported having issues connecting with Progressive’s call center during peak business hours.

        Progressive Direct Auto Insurance Coverage

Progressive Direct offers several different subtypes of auto insurance coverage. The company provides customers with access to standard auto insurance coverages like bodily injury, property damage liability, collision, and comprehensive, as well as some unique offerings.

The company also provides loan/lease payoff, which can take the place of traditional gap insurance, and custom parts and equipment coverage. Some of Progressive’s premium coverage options include roadside assistance, rental car reimbursement, and rideshare coverage.

        GEICO: Best Overall

The company even offers mechanical breakdown insurance and rideshare coverage.

        USAA: Best Military Provider

USAA is only available to members of the armed forces and their families, but if you qualify it can be an excellent choice for coverage. We gave the company an 9.6 out of 10.0 overall. USAA was awarded an 9.5 for coverage, 10.0 for cost, 9.3 for customer experience, and 9.3 for industry reputation.

        Methodology

The Detroit Bureau collects data from every major car insurance provider to formulate rankings of the best insurers. Our in-depth rating system takes into account market share, coverage, pricing, customer satisfaction and ratings from industry experts. Each insurer is given a weighted score in four categories, as well as an overall score out of 10.0.

We recommend auto insurance companies based on these rankings, but we also encourage you to perform your own research and compare quotes to find the best coverage.
