A problem with corrosion of an electrical connection that could lead to a fire has Nissan North America recalling more than 790,000 Rogues in the U.S. and Canada to resolve the problem.
According to NHTSA, the issue affects nearly 690,000 Rogues in the U.S. while Nissan said nearly 105,000 Canadian Rogues are part of the recall. The action impacts 2014-2016 model-year vehicles.
Corrosion in the electrical connector may cause issues such as driver’s power-window or power-seat failure, an all-wheel-driving warning light notification, battery discharge and thermal damage to the connector.
“In the worst case condition, a fire can occur,” according to the safety agency’s safety recall report.
Finding the problem
If the vehicle has a problem, owners may find their driver’s power window or power seat stop working. They could also see the AWD warning light illuminate, battery discharge or smoke from under the driver’s side of the dash. There may also be a burning odor.
“If water and salt collect in the driver’s side foot well, it may wick up the dash side harness tape and enter the connector,” according to a defect information report submitted to NHTSA Friday.
Nissan said it is aware of three “unconfirmed incidents” in the U.S. potentially related to the problem, but is unaware of any injuries in the U.S.
Dealers started being notified about the recall Jan. 25. Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will receive an interim notification beginning on March 2. The repair is currently under study and will be supplemented once confirmed. However, Nissan expects the repair to be available in spring 2022.
