Stellantis announced the launch of Stellantis Miles Thursday, a new loyalty program for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat and Alfa Romeo customers.
The new program differs markedly from loyalty programs available from My GM Rewards and FordPass, which reward consumers for buying a vehicle and using dealership services. While Stellantis Miles does have a dealership tie-in, its emphasis is markedly different.
The new program allows customers to earn miles for all their travel, not merely driving. So, while consumers receive two times their miles for driving their registered Stellantis car, truck, pickup or minivan, they receive five times their mileage for riding a bike, and 10 times their mileage for walking or running.
They even receive two times their miles when using rideshare services. Other trip modes that earn points include taking a bus, train, or travelling by air.
Earn Silver, Gold or Platinum
The mileage accrues once the app is installed and trips are logged automatically, and your trip history and points earned are saved, and trips can be viewed by mode. Like an airline mileage app, Stellantis Miles will award Silver, Gold, or Platinum tier status depending on the miles accrued. Given it’s an automaker app, it’s unusual that it bestows greater rewards for physical activity than for passive ones, such as driving or taking public transit.
Stellanstis estimates that its app uses 1%-2% of the average data plan, and 1% of a smartphone’s daily battery life.
The free app is available at both the iOS App Store and the Google Store. The mileage accrues once the app is installed and set up. The app was created in collaboration with Miles, an app introduced in 2018 that rewards its users by amassing miles while using various modes of ground transportation.
Encouraging behaviors
“Our vision at Miles is to reward mobility as universal behavior, creating a new economy and marketplace where every mile traveled accrues to value,” said Miles CEO Jigar Shah in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Stellantis to launch the first ever rewards program in the auto industry that truly rewards customers for all their travel.”
Customers can use their Stellantis Miles rewards at Acorns, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chewy, Farfetch, FuboTV, Garmin, Getaroom, Harry’s Razors, hims, hers, HP, Pandora, Restaurant.com, Rover, Sam’s Club, Shipt, Stash, Thrive Market, Wayfair, as well as gift cards from Amazon, Starbucks, Target, Walmart, and other retailers including Stellantis brand dealerships. Customers can aso donate their miles to charities such as One Tree Planted or the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Stellantis Miles will deliver additional value to our customers and build on our existing rewards programs,” said Mamatha Chamarthi, head of software business and product management, in a statement.
And I understand Delta is offering rewards for taking a bus or train.
