Ever since Ford executives announced the return of the Bronco, longtime fans of the ute wondered what variants of the new iteration of the SUV would be available — starting with a Raptor model. Officials confirmed the Bronco Raptor edition is coming in 2022.
Jeff Marentic, Ford’s general manager of passenger vehicles, made the announcement at the Motor Bella, the scaled-down version of the Detroit Auto Show, this morning. However, he didn’t reveal much about what to expect — other than it’s on its way.
“Coming next year is the expansion of our Raptor family,” he said after introducing the 2022 Expedition. “Bronco Raptor will be the highest off-road performance Bronco yet, giving North America two off-road kings: the F-150 Raptor and Bronco Raptor. Not just kings — giants.”
TheDetroitBureau reported in July 2020 to expect a Raptor version of the Bronco, slotting above the Wildtrak model. In the meantime, Marentic added more information will come “sooner than it takes the next Jurassic Park sequel to debut — promise.”
Jurassic Park? A Sequel? A Clue!
Marentic’s refence to Jurassic Park isn’t just a throwaway comedic line as Ford’s had roles in past Jurassic movies, including the original. It’s safe to assume the new Bronco will get plenty of prime screen time in the next version of the movie, Jurassic World 3: Dominion.
The new movie — unsurprisingly — focuses on … wait for it … Raptors! Naturally, the new Bronco variant is an excellent fit.
Ford Explorers ferried visitors around the park in the first movie, until the first participants were attacked by dinosaurs and were forced to flee the vehicles as an escaped Tyrannosaurus Rex destroyed a pair of the vehicles.
