by on Jun.01, 2015

In an effort to impress tech-savvy young consumers, carmakers are using trendy apps to help chase away the auto industry’s lingering image as a low tech industry peddling archaic products.

Volvo Cars, which is the midst of a major push into the U.S. market with the launch of the 2016 XC90, plans to release an updated version of its Volvo On Call smart app that will connect with wearables, such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear.

The maker this week finally rolled out a new version of the XC90, which will reach showrooms around the world next April. The big ute is the first all-new model developed under the ownership of Zhejiang Geely Holdings, the Chinese carmaker that purchased Volvo from Ford Motor Co. in 2010 – but it won’t be the last.

Volvo Recalls 136,000 Vehicles for Fuel Leaks

Cracking fuel pump flange leads to leaks, possibly fires.

by on Dec.21, 2009

At the very least, all owners get an extended fuel pump warranty.

Volvo is recalling 2001-2005 S80 models, 2001-2004 V70, S60 and XC70 models; and model year 2003-2005 XC90 vehicles sold in or registered in the states of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and the U.S. territories.

The fuel pump can develop cracks in the fuel pump flange when exposed to a hot climate and temperature cycling over time, and in combination with varying fuel quality.

Critics of such regional recalls note that potentially unsafe vehicles are left unaccounted for, as makers attempt to hold down the  cost of the action to areas where  most failures occur.

Recalls!

Vehicle owners may notice fuel smell and/or fuel leak which, in the hot under hood environment, could result in a fire.
