VW Adding Two-Row Atlas to Line-Up

Five-seat SUV "concept" set to make NYIAS debut.

by on Mar.19, 2018

Bound for the Big Apple - Volkswagen gives us a first look at the 5-seat version of the Atlas.

It may have been late to the SUV party but Volkswagen seems determined to catch up with a rapidly expanding line-up of new models.

The latest offering will make its debut at this month’s New York International Auto Show – albeit in concept form. And with a two-row version of its largest crossover, VW appears to be ready to chase another niche in the booming utility vehicle market.

Auto Show News!

“The Atlas has built strong momentum for Volkswagen in the SUV segment, and we are excited to grow our SUV portfolio with this new, Chattanooga-assembled five-passenger SUV,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

VW Hopes to Charge up LA Auto Show Audiences with Twin Battery Cars

CrossBlue Coupe Concept to join e-Golf on show stand.

by on Nov.15, 2013

VW's CrossBlue concept made its original debut in Shanghai. The maker suggests it will be updated for its American unveiling.

Volkswagen aims to electrify L.A. Auto Show-goers when it rolls out two battery-based models next week, including both the new e-Golf – its first battery-electric vehicle for the U.S. market – and an updated version of the CrossBlue Coupe Concept first unveiled earlier this year in Shanghai.

We offered readers a first look at the e-Golf this week, and now turn to the CrossBlue, a 5-seat plug-in hybrid that we almost certainly will see again, suggests Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand.

Stay Charged Up!

“The disproportionate growth in the SUV segment gives designers the opportunity to implement an even greater diversification of models,” explains Bischoff, adding that, “The CrossBlue Coupé shows the potential of our Volkswagen design DNA and will undoubtedly have an influence on future SUV models.”

Volkswagen Adding Two New Crossover/Utes

Seven-seater and compact in the works, maker reveals.

by on Oct.19, 2012

The real battle for world dominance will be in China where VW is firmly entrenched.

VW plans to take on rivals GM and Toyota by expanding its crossover line-up.

A relative latecomer to the SUV and CUV markets, Volkswagen is looking to catch up fast. Several senior executives have now revealed plans that appear to include both a full-size ute, as well as something smaller than VW’s current compact, the Tiguan.

The maker is likely to target one or both of these at the U.S. market where it is racing to regain a bigger share after years of neglect. It is possible that development work may, in fact, be spearheaded by newly-expanded development operations in California.

Voice of the Automotive World!

The new models, meanwhile, will offer VW an opportunity to test the limits of its all-new platform program, a strategy that uses just five individual “architectures” as the base for more than 200 different models sold through the group’s dozen different automotive brands.
