US New Car Sales for 2016 Expected to Set Another Record

Analysts are predicting 2016 will be a record-setting year for new vehicle sales in the U.S.

With a strong finish, the total new light vehicle sales in 2016 are expected to reach a 17.5 million units, setting a new record and eclipsing the mark set only a year earlier, analysts predict.

Light-vehicle sales in 2016 are expected to reach a record 17.5 million vehicles, surpassing the previous high set in 2015 by 5,000 units, according to a forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

Deutsche Bank analysts said in a note this week that U.S. auto sales are tracking at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 17.6 million units in December, up 2.4% year-over-year in absolute units, adjusted for one fewer selling day. (more…)

December auto sales are booming and it's now assumed 2015 will set a new full-year sales record.

The U.S. auto industry is enjoying its best December in years and will easily set a new sales record in 2015, according to new estimates by analysts, who follow the industry sales trends, and the outlook for the coming years looks robust despite the higher interest rates looming on the horizon.

New light-vehicle sales in December are expected to be the strongest of any month since 2005, with 2015 on track to set an annual record with 17.5 million sales, according to a monthly sales forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

With a strong close, 2015 is expected to set a total light-vehicle sales record of 17.5 million units, topping the previous high the Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate, or SAAR, will hit the 17.8 million unit mark in December, making December 2015 the fourth best-selling month on record, surpassing the previous December record set in 2004. Lexus Tops Mercedes, BMW in July Luxury Battle

Japanese luxury brand looking to regain top spot in segment.

The 2015 Lexus NX 200h is helping the brand return to the top of the luxury sales charts.

Lexus beat out its archrivals Mercedes-Benz and BMW in sales during July, setting the stage for all out battle royale for leadership in luxury vehicle sales during the next five months.

The German brands have held the lead in luxury car sales since 2011 but Lexus, which has long been focused on the U.S. market, is making a determined challenge this year.

Luxury Utilities, Crossovers Push July Auto Sales to New Heights

Month finishes near 18-million-unit sales pace.

Small crossovers did well in July and so did Buick, which posted an 18% sales increase led by the Encore.

New vehicle sales remained robust as carmakers continued to post year-over-year gains in a market where the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales, or SAAR, inched towards 18 million units.

General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Nissan, Lexus, Audi, Subaru and Volkswagen all posted sales increases for July as the industry sales continued at their best tempo in more than a decade.

GM posted a 6% increase, which included the best July results for the maker’s four brands combined since 2007. The month was paced by an 18% increase in Buick sales and an 8% increase in Chevrolet sales. Chevrolet’s results included a 24% increase in pickup, van and SUV sales, and the brand’s best July crossover sales ever.  (more…)

June Auto Sales Heating up Record Books

Buyers filled the showrooms of car dealers and adding to the bottom lines of automakers in June.

With record amounts of cash flowing through the nation’s showrooms, sales of new vehicles have continued to boom during June, analysts report, putting the industry on track to post its best sales in more that a decade.

TrueCar Inc., the car buying service, expects retail auto sales to consumers will rise 7.9% in June compared with a year ago as robust demand, married with promotions by automakers, kicks off the summer-selling season. Total industry volume, including fleet deliveries, may increase by 6.3%.

New Car Sales Predicted to Top 17 Million in the US in 2015

TrueCar expects the luxury vehicle segment to experience the largest sales growth in 2015.

A catalytic combination of an improving economy and lower gas prices will result in record results for the auto industry in 2015.

TrueCar, the online car-selling and data service, is predicting that new vehicle sales will exceed 17 million units next year and total sales will be more than 55.7 million units.
