Three New Toyota Models Let “Families on the Go Rough it in Style”

Chicago Auto Show debut for RAV4 Adventure, Tundra and Sequoia TRD

by on Feb.09, 2017

Toyota's picked up on the idea that truck and ute buyers like to customize their vehicles a bit. The new Sequoia TRD offers that chance.

This story includes updated information.

This year’s Chicago Auto Show is all about new niche products, and Toyota has a gaggle of them to show off: rugged yet lavishly equipped versions of three of its popular light truck lines.

The RAV4 Adventure and TRD versions of the Sequoia sport-utility vehicle and Tundra pickup are all aimed at families who want to “rough it in style,” the automaker explains. They all feature improvements in off-road capabilities and performance, as well as design tweaks meant to give them a sportier and more rugged appearance.

Inspired by invention-focused Maker Faire.

With the success of commercial van offerings from Ford and Nissan, Toyota may be following suit with the U2 Concept coming to the Chicago Auto Show.

Toyota could be the next automaker to target the resurgent market for compact commercial vans.

The maker gave a hint that was something it had in mind when it revealed images of its Urban Utility Concept in late 2014. Now, the Toyota U2 is finally set to make its public debut during the upcoming Chicago Auto Show.

What a Concept!

“Toyota saw an opportunity for a new approach to an urban vehicle based on increasing re-urbanization of our cities and urban drivers’ desire for flexibility, fun and maneuverability,” said Kevin Hunter president of Calty, Toyota’s North American design studio, where the concept van was developed. Toyota is looking to create some bluster at the Chicago Auto Show next week with the introduction of its newly redesigned Avalon sedan, plus two sporty versions of the Camry and Corolla.

The automaker sent out a little teaser photo of its new full-size sedan, but didn’t reveal anything else in the way of specs or pricing. However, the new sport special edition versions of the new Camry and Corolla show that the maker is clearly listening to the market and the popularity of tweaked out sedans.

Toyota Goes to Extremes with New TRD Pro Series Trucks

Modified trucks designed to push the limits.

by on Feb.06, 2014

A TRD Pro Tundra goes through its paces.

Toyota wants to kick up some dust with its newest TRD Pro Series of off-road trucks.  Targeting buyers who hope to push the limits with their Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner models, the TRD versions were specially developed by the maker’s motorsports division, Toyota Racing Development, and bear the fruits of successful off-road racing programs like the Baja 1000.

Keep on Track!

TRD has been tuning Toyota trucks for more than four decades, with the performance arm establishing a U.S. base in Costa Mesa, California in 1979.

TRD models are designed to be put to serious use off-road, though Toyota claims they have plenty of street cred, as well.
