Subaru Teases Next Crosstrek with XV Concept

SUV show car is longer, wider, lower.

by on Mar.01, 2016

The Subaru XV Concept will strongly influence the next Crosstrek model.

Subaru has long been known for building solid, go-anywhere vehicles, but not necessarily for giving them the sort of upscale feel that has become increasingly common on even today’s entry-level models.

That’s beginning to change, as the maker has demonstrated with recent additions and updates like the latest Legacy. Now, it’s getting ready to a bit more style and panache to its Crosstrek line – or so we anticipate from the Subaru XV Concept making it debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

“In the area of functionality essential to a Subaru car, excellent aerodynamic performance is teamed with the ample road clearance and luggage space required of a crossover vehicle, achieving blend of function and style,” the Japanese maker says.

Subaru Viziv 2 Hints at Maker’s Future Plans

A "future path" that may lead Subaru to the next CrossTrek.

by on Mar.05, 2014

The Subaru Viziv 2 plug-in concept.

Subaru may have tipped its hand, offering a glimpse of what it has coming in the not-too-distant future with the unveiling of the new Viziv 2 concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show.

The design of the plug-in hybrid vehicle is a likely forerunner of what we’ll be seeing with the next Subaru CrossTrek, according to company insiders.  The distinctive 4-motor hybrid-electric drive system, meanwhile, could indicate how the Japanese maker will adapt its signature all-wheel-drive systemto the demands for cleaner, more fuel-efficient technology.

Plug In!

The Viziv 2 “signifies a future path” for Subaru, suggested Tomahiko Ikeda, a senior executive with Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries, during the concept vehicle’s Geneva debut.  “To progress, we must evolve. The Viziv 2 is an example.”

Subaru teases the new Viziv 2 concept...but won't say what's inside.

Subaru may have some big news in store for the Geneva Motor Show next month, the maker offering up a teaser of the next-generation Viziv Concept vehicle and hinting that it’ll have more to say about its hybrid plans.

To confuse things a bit, the Subaru Viziv 2 Concept is actually the third show car to use that name, following the earlier Viziv Concept and Viziv Evolution Concept, the latter unveiled only last November at the Tokyo Motor Show.

We'll Keep You Behind the Wheel!

Subaru was slow to the hybrid game, only recently introducing its first model, a gas-electric version of the XV Crosstrek.  But it has hinted there’s more to come – and perhaps we’ll learn a bit when the Viziv 2 makes its debut at Geneva’s PALExpo convention center on March 4th.

Subaru Bringing New XV Crosstrek to U.S. Market

“Next-generation crossover” to debut in New York.

by on Mar.23, 2012

Subaru will introduce the new XV Crosstrek at the NY Auto Show next month.

Subaru is bringing its “next-generation crossover,” the new XV Crosstrek, to the U.S. market and will give potential American buyers a closer look at the New York Auto Show next month.

The latest crossover in the Japanese maker’s expanding line-up will share its basic underpinnings with the latest-generation Impreza.  But the CUV will get a bit more ground clearance improving its off-road capability – or at least its ability to maneuver through snowstorms and other suburban hazards.

The Final Word!

The Subaru XV Crosstrek will feature four-wheel independent suspension and will share the symmetrical all-wheel-drive system offered in all Subaru products save the maker’s new BRZ sports coupe – the latter developed as part of a joint venture with Toyota.
