After Slight Detour, Toyota C-HR Finally Makes its Debut

Planned for Scion brand, compact crossover finds a new home.

by on Mar.01, 2016

Toyota? Scion? With the upcoming demise of the Scion brand, the subcompact will carry the mother brand's badge.

Not many vehicles have seen so many detours even before being put into production, but at least the new C-HR concept has finally found a home.

The compact crossover has bounced and forth across the Atlantic several times since making its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. And it was finally expected to make its appearance in production trim at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. The one hitch: it was going to wear a Scion badge, but parent Toyota decided to pull the plug on its struggling youth brand.

The Journal of Record!

So, the crossover is back in Europe yet again. But this time, it’s badged the Toyota C-HR, and that’s what buyers on both sides of the big ditch will finally be seeing when it makes its way into showrooms later this year.

Life’s a Breeze with VW T-Cross Cabrio Concept

VW surprises with Polo-sized SUV convertible.

by on Mar.01, 2016

VW was expected to show a small SUV at the Geneva Motor Show -- but not one with a ragtop.

Volkswagen got a jump on the Geneva Motor Show Monday night, giving a standing-room crowd of automotive journalists a special preview of a quirky little SUV/convertible concept it has dubbed the T-Cross Breeze.

It’s hard to tell just how serious the maker is about putting a ragtop ute on the road. But it’s all but certain to come up with a production model in more traditional form. The German automaker has made it very clear it intends to fill the gaps in its line-up at a time when buyers around the world are trading in their conventional sedans, coupes and hatchbacks for sport and crossover-utility vehicles.

Auto Show News as it Happens!

“The T-Cross Breeze reflects the new start for our brand,” suggested VW brand design chief Klaus Bischoff. The concept, he added, “is a teaser for the most compact sport utility vehicle that Volkswagen plans to make – and the nucleus of a new SUV and convertible design in the compact sector.”

Production model expected to be based on Toyota CH-R.

by on Oct.06, 2015

Scion will show the rest of its new concept vehicle at the L.A. Auto Show on November 18th.

Scion is sizzling. After adding two new all-new models to its traditionally modest line-up this year, Toyota’s youth-oriented brand will preview another all-new offering at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.

While the teaser image the maker has released doesn’t provide much guidance, insiders have dropped broad hints that the brand is getting set to add its first utility vehicle, and the Scion show car is based on the new Toyota CH-R.

Your Inside Source!

“Following the recent introduction of the Scion iM 5-door hatchback and the sporty Scion iA sedan, the youth division of Toyota is preparing to further expand its lineup with a third all-new vehicle, beginning in 2017,” Scion stated in a terse release.

A year after unveiling the original C-HR concept, the Japanese maker is back with an updated design that appears to be a step closer to production. Kia Reveals New Sportage

“The new face of Kia.”

by on Aug.28, 2015

New headlights and a modified "tiger nose" grille distinguish the gen-four Kia Sportage.

Kia is giving us a more detailed look at the next-generation Sportage, following up on the early renderings it released a couple weeks ago.

Set to make its formal debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the 2016 Kia Sportage will pick up on some of the cues we first saw in the form of the Niro Concept two years ago. The overall look offers a strong hint of where Kia’s global design chief Peter Schreyer will be taking the look of the brand in the years to come.

Auto Show News!

The biggest changes to the design of the fourth-generation Sportage can be seen in its face, notes Kia, “with the car’s headlamps no longer integrated with the grille for the new model, instead sweeping back along the outer edges of the more sharply-detailed (hood) and bolder wheel arches.”

Nissan Packs 600 HP Under Hood of Juke 2.0

Supercar Crossover makes its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

by on Jun.29, 2015

The Juke-R 2.0 picks up the 600-hp Nissan GT-R NISMO powertrain.

To some, it’s one of the coolest cars on the market; to others the goofiest. What’s hard to debate is that the latest update of the Nissan Juke is also the most powerful vehicle in the small crossover market.

The maker took the wraps off what it has dubbed the Juke-R 2.0 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend, and this cross between a crossover and a sports car gets a big bump in performance.  First shown at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the original Nissan Juke-R made a mere 545-hp. For those who want more, the Juke-R 2.0 will churn out an even more crazy 600-hp.

News You Can Trust!

“The JUKE-R 2.0 is a perfect ‘crossover’ of the best bits of Nissan – real innovation showcasing our crossover prowess fused with the excitement of the GT-R supercar engine,” said Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Communications general manager for Nissan Europe.

Chevrolet Teases New Equinox

New CUV to make appearance at Chicago Auto Show.

by on Feb.09, 2015

Chevy teases the 2016 Equinox.

Chevrolet will roll out a much-awaited update of its midsize Equinox crossover later this week, and is offering a little tease of what we can expect to blow into the Windy City.

The 2016 Chevrolet Equinox will get revised headlamps and new LED daytime running lights but, beyond that, Chevy isn’t saying much about what’s in store. That said, expect to see improved fuel economy, updates to the crossover-utility vehicle’s infotainment system and other tweaks meant to keep the Equinox competitive in an increasingly crowded segment.

It will be the CUV’s first major update since the current generation was rolled out in late 2009. It remains to be seen when General Motors will offer an update to the Equinox’s near-twin, the GMC Terrain, but that is very likely to come later this year, according to industry observers.
