Software glitch could cause airbag, seatbelt failure in rollovers.

by on May.12, 2017

The Ram 1500 is one of three versions of the full-size truck covered by the recall.

More than 1.25 million Ram pickup trucks are being recalled worldwide due to a software glitch that can cause some of the vehicles’ airbags and seatbelts to fail during rollover crashes.

The problem has been linked to at least one death and two injuries, according to a statement by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The automaker also advised owners to watch for a warning light on the instrument panel for a possible failure.

Safety First!

The recall covers three different light and medium-duty versions of the full-size Ram pickup sold in North America, as well as other parts of the world between the 2013 through 2016 model-years, FCA said.

Maker points to stability control problems.

The Ram 1500 4x4 faces recall.

Chrysler Group is recalling more than 45,000 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a problem with their electronic stability control system.

It’s an ironic turn of events as the full-size Ram pickup was today given a “Recommended” rating and named the top truck by Consumer Reports magazine – a coveted endorsement, especially for a carmaker that has been having its problems with safety related recalls lately and one that has been struggling to reverse a long-standing reputation for quality and reliability issues.

According to Chrysler, the recall is the result of a software glitch that could cause the vehicles’ electronic stability control system to fail when the pickups are started up. The technology is used to monitor how a vehicle is behaving on the road and can prevent a skid or rollover.  As a result, a disabled stability control system could cause a crash following an aggressive maneuver or due bad weather and road conditions.

Chrysler Ram, Dakota Trucks Among Nearly 300,000 Vehicles Targeted by Recall

Axle problem could cause crash. Chrysler also announced new airbag recall.

by on Feb.15, 2013

The Ram 1500 is one of several vehicles covered by a new recall due to an axle defect.

A problem with a rear axle component that could cause a loss of control is forcing Chrysler to recall a wide array of vehicles including its full-size and midsize pickups and several SUV models.

In all, a total of 278,222 Ram 1500 pickups from the 2009 through 2012 model-years are covered by the service action, along with 2009 to 2011 Dodge Dakota pickups and 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs.

In a separate announcement, Chrysler also says it will recall 4,278 Dodge Viper sports cars from the 2003 and 2004 model-years. That service action is the result of a circuit board problem that could prevent the vehicle’s airbag from properly inflating.  A similar problem already forced the recall of older Jeep Liberty and Jeep Grand Cherokee models.
