New 8th-Gen Rolls-Royce Phantom Fit for an Oligarch

Enjoy "The Embrace."

by on Jul.28, 2017

The new Rolls-Royce Phantom boasts the longest-running nameplate in the auto industry.

There’s a new king-of-the-hill, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos being named the world’s richest man, ahead of long-time moneybags and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. With Forbes estimating his fortune at $90 billion – even with free shipping – we just might have the perfect car for the online entrepreneur.

After a surprisingly long, 14-year run, Rolls-Royce is finally giving its flagship Phantom “saloon” car a complete makeover, the new model being unveiled at the British marque’s Goodwood factory today.

Product News!

Few cars have been around as long, the original Phantom debuting way back in 1925, and with its waterfall grille and “Spirit of Ecstasy” hood ornament, few are as readily recognizable. Only the eighth version of the Phantom since the nameplate was launched 92 years ago, the new model offers plenty of lavish features designed to appeal to the world’s richest and most discriminating motorists – from the new 6.75-liter V-12 engine to the “Embrace” it offers rear seat passengers.

What Sort of Car Can You Get for $1 Million?

by on Aug.05, 2014

The Mercedes-Benz Pullman S600 is expected to be almost 8 inches longer than the old Maybach S62.

While it finally pulled the plug on the poor-selling Maybach line, Daimler AG hasn’t entirely abandoned the ultra-premium luxury car market. This image, used in a new patent filing, reportedly shows us what the German maker has in store for when it rolls out the new Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman line.

With prices expected to reach as much as $1 million for an armored version of the stretch limousine, Mercedes once again plans to challenge its two British-based ultra-lux rivals, BMW-owned Rolls-Royce, and the Bentley division of Volkswagen AG.

A Luxury You Can Afford!

The look of the new S600 Pullman won’t come as a shock to potential buyers. It largely follows the lines of the current Mercedes-Benz S600 – though those lines stretch on for quite some distance. The new limousine is expected to measure a whopping 21 feet, nose-to-tail. That would be nearly 8 inches longer than the old Maybach 62.

Sales of the World’s Most Expensive Automobiles Running at Record Pace

Some makers push higher, but others are putting limits on production.

by on Jul.09, 2014

Bentley offers a hint of the SUV to come in late 2016.

Whether it’s the result of a booming stock market, the overall economy or other factors, the rich are getting behind the wheel of some of the world’s most expensive automobiles at a record pace – so much so that one manufacturer has put a limit on production to maintain its exclusivity.

As expensive as a Rolls-Royce or Bentley might be “off the rack,” the premium luxury carmakers also report a record number of buyers are choosing to customize their vehicles, at times, doubling, even tripling the basic price tag.

We're a Luxury You Can Afford!

“There is no question that some markets will remain tough but we are confident of a good 2014,” said Kevin Rose, the board member overseeing sales, service and marketing at Britain’s Bentley Motors.

2014 Mercedes S-Class a Technical Tour de Force

New flagship features 500 LED lamps, 455 horsepower, stereo cameras -- and a hot-stone massage seat.

by on May.16, 2013

Mercedes redesigns its flagship S-Class for 2014.

There was a time when luxury cars were defined by their sheer size and mass, their power, performance and, of course, exclusive details like leather seats and wood trim.

Those are all factors that help distinguish the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as you might expect, but there’s a lot more to the completely redefined German flagship that fit the changing nature of the auto industry.  From its 500 LED lamps to the 3D cameras, radar and night vision systems that allow the new sedan to virtually drive itself, the new S-Class is a technical tour de force that will likely have competitors racing to catch up.

Charging Up Your Car Knowledge!

The long-awaited remake of the classic full-size luxury sedan was staged at an Airbus factory in Hamburg, Germany – no surprise because parent Mercedes-Benz also holds a stake in the European airline manufacturer. But the venue was clearly chosen to underscore the technical sophistication of the new S-Class.

Mercedes Offers First Look at New S-Class

Button, button, who’s got the buttons?

by on Mar.20, 2013

Step inside the 2014 Mercedes S-Class.

It will likely be one of the most closely watched introductions of the 2014 model-year and Mercedes-Benz is clearly stirring interest with the release of the first teaser images of the next-generation S-Class sedan.

Known inside the company as the W222, the new model will have some big tire tracks to fill.  The S-Class has traditionally been the benchmark for the premium-luxury segment that makers like BMW, Audi and even upstart Hyundai have to chase down.

Covering the Auto Market Top to Bottom!

For its part, Mercedes less than modestly describes the 2013 S-Class as “the best automobile in the world,” adding that it is “the essence of luxury.” Whether that holds true remains to be seen but these images and some background from the Teutonic maker suggest Mercedes is going all-out to satisfy picky buyers – and keep the competition worried.

Hyundai May Follow 2014 Equus Update With New Luxury Models

Facelifted Equus to launch at NY Auto Show.

by on Mar.14, 2013

The undisguised 2014 Hyundai Equus.

Hyundai landed an unexpected body blow to the luxury car segment when it introduced its first-generation Genesis and followed with the well-received Equus, the big sedan taking on the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

An updated version of the Hyundai Equus is scheduled to debut at the New York Auto Show later this month but the Korean carmaker doesn’t appear ready to stop there, sources both inside and outside the company telling that an expanded line-up of luxury models could follow in the not-too-distant future.

But it now appears extremely unlikely that Hyundai will now follow up with a separate luxury channel for the American market, something it has agonized over in recent years.

Hyundai Teases Update of 2014 Equus Update

Big sedan to get more technology, improved interior, subtle design revisions.

by on Mar.07, 2013 has pulled out a few more details than we originally saw in this teaser image of the 2014 Hyundai Equus.

Like most of our automotive media colleagues, we’ll be heading back from Geneva about the time you read this report. That doesn’t mean the automotive world will take a breather and await our return. Certainly not Hyundai, which has dropped this image into our e-mail which we’re accessing by long-distance WiFi.

We’ve also enhanced the image just a wee bit to try to bring out a little more detail on what we’re told is the 2014 Hyundai Equus, the mid-cycle update of the flagship sedan the Korean carmaker introduced here almost four years ago. It will make its debut at the New York Auto Show less than three weeks from now.

News You Can Use!

Hyundai promises “exterior and interior design” enhancements.  Though it’s difficult to spot many specific details, that appears to include updated headlights and revised LED accent lamps, as well as tweaks to the front fascia, bumper and foglamps. The turbine-style wheels also appear to be new.

Buy a Cadillac, Get an iPad

Luxury maker giving tablet away with new XTS sedan.

by on May.10, 2012

Cadillac will give away an iPad to buyers of its new XTS, the tablet computer loaded with apps designed to complement the new Caddy CUE system.

Buy a car, get a pad. That’s one of the bonuses Cadillac is throwing in with the new XTS flagship sedan it is launching in late spring.

Customers will get a new iPad as part of the deal, the tablet computer loaded with a variety of software features that are, in turn, part of what Cadillac is describing as a network of new support services it hopes will differentiate it from other luxury brands.

The iPad itself will feature a variety of apps, including one that will let buyers “test drive” the new Caddy CUE system.  That’s the maker’s new voice-activated infotainment system.  CUE uses some of the same basic technology as Apple’s Siri service and is pre-programmed to recognize common speech, rather than the strict command language most other in-car voice systems require a user to learn.

The iPad will also be loaded with OnStar RemoteLink and the MyCadillac app allowing owners to find the nearest dealer, schedule service and repairs online or call for roadside assistance, if necessary.
