Porsche Luring Aficionados to New Atlanta Headquarters

German maker opens $100 million experience center.

Porsche opened its new $100 million experience center that is part headquarters and part interactive museum in Atlanta.

Think expensive and think unique seems to be the motto for Porsche Cars North America as it opened the $100 million Porsche Experience Center and headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 27-acre complex located at the Northeast corner of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the maker’s largest investment outside Germany. The sports-car manufacturer has spared no expense on a museums and factory-centered delivery centers designed specifically to enhance the mystique around the Porsche brand.

Besides the headquarters office, the new complex includes a driver development track, classic car gallery, restoration center, human performance center, driving simulator lab and a fine dining restaurant. Porsche's new headquarters will feature an industry-first test track that will be open to customers.

Think having the chance to drive your new sports car on a closed test track and handling course might be enough to close the deal? Porsche thinks so.

At the groundbreaking for its new North American headquarters in Atlanta, the automaker announced that the 26.4-acre campus would include a 1.6-mile test track where dealers will be able to bring customers to experience the full capabilities of the company’s cars.

Porsche Unveils its “Purest Panamera”

Maker announced new “Experience Center” for California fans.

Porsche bills the 430 hp GTS as its "purest" Panamera.

For those who’ve wondered what the limits are for Porsche’s quirky Panamera, the maker is pushing closer with the L.A. Auto Show unveiling of the new Panamera GTS.  Short for Gran Turismo Sport, it puts the emphasis on the “wow” factor, adding 30 more horsepower and 15 pound-feet to the already impressive numbers made by the S version of Porsche’s 4-door sports car.

“No other four-seater is more track-capable,” declared Porsche Board Member Wolfgang Hatz during an L.A. Auto Show news conference that also saw the official launch of the seventh-generation Porsche 911.  (Click Here for our review of the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera.)

Though the new Panamera GTS gets such performance niceties as an air suspension system with adaptive damping and increased braking performance it also gives up the Launch Control system found on the more mainstream – if one can use such a term – Panamera S.

Notably reflecting shifting consumer demand and the evolution of the semi-automatic technology Porsche will only offer the Panamera GTS with its lightning-fast 7-speed PDK double-clutch transmission. (more…)
