Nissan Fills in Blanks About “Standard” Titan Model

Half-ton model will go on sale in summer 2016.

by on Feb.11, 2016

The new Nissan Titan half-ton comes in about a foot shorter than the Titan XD.

In an unusual move, Nissan launched its all-new Titan pickup line with the XD, or medium-duty model, last December. Now it’s ready to go after the heart of the truck market with the half-ton model.

The Japanese maker revealed some of the details of the standard-edition Titan in Chicago, just in time for the Windy City’s annual auto show press preview. Among other things, Nissan plans to lift a page from Detroit’s pickup handbook, offering the new Titan in a wide range of cab, drivetrain and bed configurations.

Truck News!

Together Titan and Titan XD will cover nearly 85 percent of the total full-size truck market,” said Rich Miller, Nissan’s product planning director for trucks, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The half-ton will target the highest-volume segments, the XD providing a bridge for those who want more capabilities than a standard truck but who can’t afford – or who don’t need – a traditional heavy-duty model.

Nissan Has Big Plans for Fast-Growing NISMO Line-Up

Sentra, Maxima may be next to get the high-performance badge.

by on Feb.13, 2015

Nissan's 370Z Roadster NISMO Concept is the latest to display the maker's high-horsepower badge, but not likely the last.

“Welcome to NISMO World,” proclaimed Nissan’s Darren Cox, as he stood on stage at the Chicago Auto Show surrounded by new models from the Japanese maker’s high-performance brand.

On one side sat the low and menacing GT-R LM P1 race car Nissan plans to campaign on the Le Mans endurance circuit this year. Off Cox’s other shoulder, the 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept that is all but certain to join the performance unit’s growing line-up in the next year or two.

Power!

That would bring to five the number of models sold by Nissan’s ultimate performance unit, but the party is likely to get even bigger in the near future, NISMO’s global marketing manager told TheDetroitBureau.com in an exclusive interview. (more…)

Nissan Goes Topless with 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept

What you see is likely to be what you’ll get.

by on Feb.12, 2015

Nissan is giving strong consideration to building the convertible version of the NISMO 370Z.

There was a time when concept cars were little more than fantasies in chrome, having little more to do with reality than the speeder Luke Skywalker manned in the original Star Wars film.

Well, the new Nissan 370Z NISMO Roadster Concept looks like it would be nearly as much fun, but if recent trends hold true, there’s a good shot you’ll be able to park one in your driveway sooner, rather than later. These days, automakers have a habit of testing customer response and teasing what they’re already planning to bring to market, few more effectively than Nissan.”

Ragtop News!

That said, as “the ultimate expression of the brand,” Nissan wants to make sure the 370Z Roadster Concept is the right fit for its performance division, NISMO, stressed Pierre Loing, vice president of product planning.

Nissan Planning New Titan for Likely 2015 Debut

More body styles, powertrain options aimed to enhance appeal.

by on Feb.07, 2013

The current Nissan Titan is a marginal player in the big pickup market.

One thing the Japanese have demonstrated, over and over again, is that they live by the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” And nowhere is that more apparent than in the full-size truck market.

Despite repeated attempts, Nissan and Toyota have failed to dislodge Detroit’s firm grip on the huge and highly profitable segment. But even as the bigger of the two makers gets ready to reveal an all-new version of the Tundra pickup during the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Nissan officials are confirming that they’re working up a replacement for their own full-size offering, the Titan.

News You Can Use!

Japanese officials, hoping to grab a bit of Toyota’s spotlight, announced they are “prepared for (the) long haul” and are “moving fast” to launch an “all-new” version of Titan.  While they didn’t have much else to say about their plans, TheDetroitBureau.com has learned some significant additional details from Nissan planners attending the Chicago Auto Show.

Nissan Looks for Big Niche With Small NV 200 Van

Food truck anyone?

by on Feb.08, 2012

Nissan's newest commercial truck, the NV 200, makes its Chicago Auto Show debut.

Cupcakes to go?  How about some macaroni and cheese?  The food truck at the corner of the Nissan stand suggested just one of the reasons why the Japanese maker is optimistic about the opportunities for its new NV 200 van, which is getting its U.S. preview at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

Even after loading in a mobile kitchen, 4-wheel restaurants can be put on the road for less than $75,000, a company spokesman told TheDetroitBureau.com, potentially positioning Nissan to take advantage of the food truck boom sweeping the U.S. market.

Tackling the News!

Of course, there are plenty of other applications the maker hopes to take advantage of, said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America Inc., including New York’s huge cab fleet as a result of the maker winning the city’s Taxi of Tomorrow competition.

Nissan Goes Subtle With ’13 Z-Car Update

2013 370Z will be offered in three body styles.

by on Feb.08, 2012

Can you spot the changes in the new Z-Car?

If Nissan’s newly-updated 370Z were a game it would be the type that requires you to spot the subtle differences between two largely identical images.  To borrow various clichés, the changes for 2013 are “subtle” and “evolutionary,” rather than the type likely to grab your immediate attention.

Not that this necessarily matters, as the outgoing model was a pretty striking design that doesn’t need many changes to stay fresh.

Your Auto Show Guide!

So, for the 2013 update making its debut today at the Chicago Auto Show, the most significant changes include:

  • A refreshed front fascia with vertical LED daytime running lights;
  • Revised 19-inch aluminum allow wheels on the Sport Package and new 18-inch wheels for the 370Z Coupe;
  • Euro-tuned shocks on the Sport Package models; and
  • Two new exterior colors: Magma Red and Midnight Blue.
