Makers Putting Some Old Models Out to Pasture with Big Discounts

Edmunds suggests a list of new vehicles with great deals.

The Chrysler 200 will be dropped later this year, creating great deals for savvy buyers looking for a car on a big discount.

Auto sales are cruising along at near-record levels this year and automakers have become relatively good at monitoring production levels to ensure they don’t end up with a glut of some models they have to give away.

Pretty good isn’t perfect though and there are always a few vehicles that get away from them a bit and find their way into the “bargain bin” of new vehicle purchases. Most are perfectly lovely vehicles, but because they’re due for a redesign, get a bad rap or consumer tastes shift, these vehicles can be had for a fantastic price.

With the auto industry still on track to set a new single-year sales record for the second consecutive year, it may seem like automakers won’t be looking to make great deals. However, you’d be wrong.

It is true that the makers are selling vehicles for an average transaction price that is higher than ever and exceeds $31,000, there are always a few deals to be had and August may be a good month to get behind the wheel of a new vehicle, according to Kelley Blue Book analysts.

Nissan's flagship sedan, the 2014 Maxima, was rated the best deal of October by KBB.com.

While September often is viewed as the best month to buy or lease a new car, October is boasting some pretty good deals as well, according to KBB.com.

The website lists the best deals for leasing, financing and getting cash back each month and right now it has rated the $4,500 cash back for the 2014 Nissan Maxima S as the best offer available. The Maxima has a sticker price of just over $32,000.

Looking for a good deal this month? The Fiat 500 can be gotten for as little as $99 a month, according to KBB.com.

New car and truck sales are still humming along in 2014, but if you’re searching for a deal, compact and midsize sedans are the segments where you should start the hunting.

There are deals for those looking to lease or buy, especially for the Fiat 500. Right now, according to KBB.com, a 2014 Fiat 500 can be had for as little as $99 a month for 24 months. It requires nearly $2,400 down. However, if you’re looking to buy, the same car can be had for $265 a month for 60 months using the $3,000 cash back the automaker is offering buyers.

“Compact and midsize sedans are among the most popular segments in the United States, and this month consumers will be able to find red-hot deals on the Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Cruze,” said Jack R.
