Mercedes Gives a Glimpse of New CLS

A hard act to follow.

by on Nov.20, 2017

A first teaser shot reveals some notable changes to the nose of the next Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Few cars have had a bigger impact on automotive design than the original Mercedes-Benz CLS which introduced the concept of coupe-like sedans that seemingly every automaker has now copied.

First launched for the 2005 model-year, Mercedes took a cautious approach with the gen-2 CLS, opting for evolution over revolution. Now, an all-new remake will be making its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, and we’ve gotten two teaser images offering some hints of what to expect.

Auto Show Previews!

We’ve done a little work with Photoshop to pull some details out of the shadows and reveal a bit more about the face of the Mercedes-Benz CLS. But what you see is what we got in terms of the interior detail shot. And if that’s any indication of what to expect, it’s likely the CLS cabin where we’ll be some of the most dramatic updates to the new CLS.

Mercedes Not Playing Around with AMG Vision Gran Turismo Supercar

A supercar for couch potatos?

by on Nov.18, 2013

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept will come to life on the new PlayStation 3.

It’s going to be a busy week for the auto industry, what with simultaneous auto shows in both Tokyo and Los Angeles. Mercedes-Benz, for example, will debut an assortment of new products, including the new S65 AMG and the SLS AMG Final Edition. Also on top for the German maker: the unveiling of a new supercar concept dubbed the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

Borrowing its gullwing doors from the SLS – and the Mercedes 300 SL before it – the sleek, liquid silver Vision is just a show car for now. But that won’t prevent folks from taking it for a spin.  At least, not if they have one of the new Sony PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.

Work and Play!

Mercedes has teamed up with the producers of the long-popular Grand Turismo racing game to bring the supercar to virtual life, giving fans a chance to see what it would be like to slip behind the wheel of the 585-horsepower 2-seater.

“By virtue of its proportions and expressive appearance, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo embodies the brand’s defining design philosophy of sensual purity in a unique way. The design of this concept car reflects to extreme effect the perfect symbiosis between emotional, sensuous contours and intelligently presented high tech,” says Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design Daimler AG.

Mercedes Meets BladeRunner with Ener-G-Force

Germans come up with patrol car for 2025.

by on Nov.16, 2012

Mercedes envisions the patrol car of 2025.

We’re not sure if it’s more like something you’d see in Mad Max or BladeRunner, but the folks At Mercedes-Benz have come up with what they’re billing as the police car of 2025, featuring an almost military-style remake of the latest Benz G-Class dubbed the Ener-G-Force.

It isn’t that much of a stretch, in fact, considering the military heritage of the original Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen. The project was, in fact, commissioned as part of the LA Design Challenge, an annual shoot-out among designers both student and professional, sponsored by the Los Angeles Auto Show – which will display the winner and five runners-up later this month.

Voice of the Automotive World!

This year’s challenge was to come up with the “Highway Patrol Vehicle of 2025,” and participants were advised to consider that “Law enforcement will have to prepare for even more crowded roads with electronically monitored and guided traffic, a much larger population and changes in human behavior. People will still feel young and active even later in life. Outdoor activities will dominate leisure, as will the desire for freedom and adventure.

First Look: 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG

Muscle, luxury and plenty of space.

by on Nov.14, 2011

Mercedes delivers a big bump in power with the launch of the 2012 ML63 AMG.

Mercedes-Benz is seldom shy about adding some muscle to its more mainstream offerings, and the AMG badge on the back of the third-generation ML line suggests that this sport-utility vehicle isn’t meant for crawling all over boulder-strewn trails.

Then again, neither are any of the other members of the ML line-up, which is more likely to win over soccer moms and commuter dads than rugged outdoorsmen.  In the case of the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, the pitch is to those who want a reasonable degree of functionality and flexibility but still hope to find something with the soul of a sports car.

Upgrade Your Insight!

There’s no question that the fast-beating heart of the 2012 ML63 can impress, the updated 5.5-liter biturbo V8 making518 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque – up 15 hp and 44 lb-ft, respectively, over the old model.  For those who need to press things to the limit, you’ll also find the AMG Performance Package bumps that up to 550 hp and 560 lb-ft.  Power is channeled through the Mercedes Speedshift Plus-7 automatic gearbox.
