The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets modest exterior changes but lots of new technology.

We’ve already gotten a good look at the mid-cycle update of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and so, just in time for the Frankfurt Motor Show, the German automaker is lifting the veils off two refreshed S-Class variants.

As with the 2018 sedan, the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet undergo relatively modest exterior updates – with the exception of cutting-edge OLED taillights unique to the two-door models. But they now add a range of new infotainment, driver assistance and safety gear that will be shared with the refreshed S-Class sedan.

The outgoing S-Class was a technical tour de force when it debuted just three years ago, introducing a range of features, including the ability to drive hands-free, albeit for short stretches of time on limited access highways. Mercedes-Benz continues to tease mavens with slight reveals of the new S-Class convertible.

Like a fan dancer doing a slow and carefully choreographed striptease, Mercedes-Benz is slowly lifting the fan to tease the new S-Class Cabriolet it will formally unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show in barely three weeks time.

The German maker has been billing the droptop S-Class as “the first luxury four-seater cabriolet since 1971,” something that might come as a surprise to Bentley which will now get an only slightly less expensive competitor to its exclusive Continental GTC model.

Mercedes Offers First Hint of New GT Sports Car

A look at the interior of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GT AMG sports car due to debut later this year.

Watch your back, Porsche, you’re about to get a challenge from your cross-town rival, Mercedes-Benz.

Hours before the official opening of the 2014 New York Auto Show, Mercedes offered small group of reporters and dealers a brief tease of the all-new sports car it plans to launch later this year. And a top executive confirmed that the new Mercedes-Benz GT will take direct aim at the segment’s benchmark, the Porsche 911.

For the moment, there aren’t many details to go on.  Mercedes offered up only a basic sketch of the exterior shape, along with some close-ups of the new GT’s interior, all done up in a seductive red leather.

But Steve Cannon, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, later told TheDetroitBureau.com, “We’re going into space the Porsche 911 has had all to itself for all these years.”
