First Look: 2016 Cadillac CTS-V

Corvette Performance from a midsize luxury sedan.

by on Dec.22, 2014

The new Cadillac CTS-V is the luxury brand's first production model to break the 200 mph wall.

When General Motors flagship brand launched its then-new ATS sedan several years ago, it sounded a warning shot to competitors with an audacious ad campaign dubbed “Cadillac v the World.” In hindsight, it might have wanted to wait a bit, because the all-new Caddy CTS-V promises to be the true world-beater.

Set to debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show, the third-generation, 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will not only be larger and more lavishly equipped, but it will also deliver an awesome upgrade in performance. The new supercharged 6.2-liter LT-1 V-8 will punch out a neck-snapping 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.

Muscle Up!

To put that into perspective, that’s 84-hp more than the Gen-2 CTS-V and a mere 10 ponies less than the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The most powerful production model ever to bear the Cadillac crest, the new V sedan will launch from 0 to 60 in a mere 3.7 seconds. It also becomes the first Caddy road car to ever break the 200 mph top speed barrier.

First Look: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

First of four new AMG models coming to U.S.

by on Apr.21, 2011

Think of the new C63 AMG as Mercedes' Beauty and the Beast, suggested product czar Joachim Schmidt.

Mercedes-Benz will roll out “at least” four new high-performance AMG models this coming year, the maker reported, giving the first of these a send-up at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

The new C63 AMG becomes the most powerful version of Mercedes’ “entry-level” model ever offered in the U.S.  With its naturally-aspirated 6.3 liter V8, the compact luxury model will make a full 451 horsepower, announced global product chief Joachim Schmidt, and 443 horsepower.

The engine drives the rear wheels through a 7-speed Speedshift MCT transmission.

During a presentation at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, Schmidt made reference to a long-running play staged a mile north, on Broadway, dubbing the C63 AMG, “our own version of Beauty and the Beast.”

Mercedes plans to slash the price of its new E-Class models by 10%, despite significant new hardware -- and a complete interior and exterior redesign.

Aiming to undercut the competition, and stop a precipitous sales drop, Mercedes-Benz is taking the dramatic step of cutting prices on its all-new, 2010 E-Class sedan by about 10%, despite the addition of “significant” amounts of new content on the updated model.

The 2010 E350, with its 3.5-liter V-6, will start at $48,600, the automaker announced, during a media preview of the sedan, on Thursday. The ’09 E350 currently goes for $53,200. (The figures don’t include destination and delivery charges, which will come to $875 on the 2010 E-Class.)

The more powerful E550, meanwhile, will start at $56,300, also a cut of about 10% compared to the 2009 model.    (more…)

Sneak Peek: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

4 doors, 7 gears, 518 horsepower.

What part of 518 hp and 186 mph don't you understand?

What part of 518 hp and 186 mph don't you understand? Oh, and the 7-speed gearbox shifts in just 100 milliseconds.

Think of the possibilities provided by 7 gears and 518 horsepower.  (Of course, it helps not to think about the possible fines and points on your license.)

The new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is the most powerful model to ever wear the German maker’s midsize badge.  In fact, Mercedes officials claim it will outperform the smaller, lighter C63 AMG.

With the delicious brap of its big, 6.3-liter V-8 echoing through the halls of Jacob Javits Center, AMG President Volker Mornhinweg drove a pre-production prototype of the E63 out for its turn in the spotlight, Wednesday – one of an array of new Mercedes products that are staging their premier at the 2009 New York International Auto Show.

The E63 stands in sharp contrast to the rest of the new offerings, primarily a mix of high-mileage diesels, as well as the German marque’s first hybrid-electric vehicle, the ML450.
