Mercedes Set to Debut Concept SUV in Beijing

Likely forerunner of upcoming Mercedes MLC coupe/SUV.

by on Apr.10, 2014

The Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe was previewed at the annual Daimler shareholders meeting.

If there are any white spaces left in the luxury car market, it seems like the German makers are intent on filling them as fast as possible.  We’ve been seeing a flood of new offerings in recent months and the tsunami is set to continue, if this image from Mercedes-Benz is any indication.

Dieter Zetsche, the Mercedes brand boss and Chairman of Daimler AG offered an unexpected sneak peak during the maker’s annual shareholders meeting of the Concept Coupe SUV.

What a Concept!

Set to make its official debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month, it’s expected to reappear in the very near future in concept form as the new MLC-Class.

More aggressive than the familiar M-Class ute, the MLC is being targeted at the all-new BMW X6 five-door coupe/SUV.

Daimler Earnings Improve

Teutonic maker hopes to challenge luxury rival BMW.

Mercedes' CSC concept debuted in Beijing this week.

Preliminary signs suggest Daimler AG is gaining traction from the ongoing product blitz launched by its flagship Mercedes-Benz brand, the German manufacturer reporting a 20% increase in net income for the first quarter, earning jumping to more than or 1.4 billion euros ($1.8 billion), or 1.25 euros per share as sale increased 9%.

But the maker repeated a cautionary note sounded by Dieter Zetsche, Daimler’s Chairman of the Board of Management who has referred to 2012 as a transition year for the maker which is struggling to regain its lead as the world’s largest luxury automaker.

The Last Word!

“We have started the year with a strong first quarter. Despite higher investment in future growth and a challenging market environment, we succeeded in surpassing the very good prior-year results in terms of unit sales, revenue, EBIT and net profit,” noted Zetsche.

First Look: Mercedes’ Downsized Coupe-Like CSC Sedan Concept

Beijing’s CSC Concept will be America’s new CLA.

by on Apr.18, 2012

We'll get a closer look at the CLA Concept next week in Beijing.

Can we buy a vowel, Vanna?  Okay, so that means the CSC Concept will soon reappear as the CLA.  Got that straight?  No?

We’re not surprised.  The once easy to remember Mercedes-Benz alphanumeric line-up has grown increasingly complex, over the years, as the maker keeps filling more and more luxury niches.  And it will become yet more confusing come the press days at next week’s Beijing Motor Show, when we get our first look at what is being referred to as the Mercedes Concept Style Coupe, or CSC.

Be In the Know!

In fact, the images here will herald the coming of what will be dubbed the CLA when it actually rolls into showrooms in the very near future.

Clear yet?  Okay, here’s more: The German automaker scored an absolute out-of-the-park home run with the launch of the original CLS, it’s “Coupe-Like Sedan.” The sweeping shape has influenced virtually everyone in the auto industry, from rivals like BMW, with the new 6-Series Gran Coupe, to Hyundai, with its coupe-like Sonata.
