McLaren Aims to Triple Sales

More products coming – but no plans for SUV.

by on Mar.03, 2016

The new McLaren 570GT.

British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive has some ambitious plans for the next six years, with a goal of adding new models and tripling its current sales volume to somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 vehicles a year.

One of the newest manufacturers in the high-performance market, McLaren brought its latest entry to the Geneva Motor Show this week in the form of the new 570GT. It’s part of a three-segment strategy aimed at expanding its range of buyers and, among other things, bringing in more women. But, unlike key competitors including Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Ferrari, don’t expect to see McLaren add an SUV to the mix, its CEO said in Geneva.

Performance News!

McLaren only began building cars in 2010, but logged sales of 1,654 vehicles last year and, CEO Mike Flewitt told the Reuters news service, “4,000 is a very good business model for us. I actually think volume by 2022 will be more consistently around 4,500 and I don’t think it will go above 5,000 cars,”

McLaren Releases Performance Numbers for New 650S

Top speed of 207 mph; 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds.

by on Feb.28, 2014

The 641-hp McLaren 650S is faster than the maker's legendary F1 supercar.

While we got our first look at the new McLaren 650S earlier this month there was something critical missing. After all, what’s a supercar without the numbers?  The advance images were certainly handsome enough, but we were left wondering about those little details, like 0 to 60 times and top speeds.

Well, with just days to go before the McLaren 650S makes its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, we’re getting the blanks filled in and they’re clearly impressive. To start with, the new 2-seater is a full half-second faster from a standing start to 200 kmh – 124 mph – than the current 12C and significantly faster than the legendary McLaren P1.

Performance!

To quote directly from the British maker’s release, here are some of the basics:  “The latest addition to the McLaren range accelerates to 100km/h (62mph) from rest in just 3.0 seconds, and can reach 200km/h (124mph) in just 8.4 seconds. The standing quarter mile (400m) takes 10.5 seconds, and top speed is 333 km/h (207 mph). This performance puts the latest model from McLaren a full second quicker than the iconic McLaren F1 road car to 200 km/h, and 0.6 sec faster over the standing quarter mile, underlining its performance focus.

Supercar set for Geneva debut.

The emphasis was on aerodynamics with the design of the new McLaren 650S.

McLaren is set to unleash the latest in its fast-growing line-up of supercars, the new 650S set to make its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.  But the maker is offering up an early sneak peek at the new model with these two official images.

The 641-horsepower will slot into the McLaren line-up between the current 12C 2-seater and the P1 hypercar, with the 650S being offered in both Coupe and electrically retractable hardtop Spider body styles, both expected to reach showrooms by spring.

The debut of the new McLaren 650S is in keeping with the British maker’s plan, first revealed by TheDetroitBureau.com in 2010, to roll out an entirely new model roughly once a year.  And, as with both those earlier models, the new 650S will use a carbon fiber chassis – with the lightweight material being used extensively in body, interior and other componentry, as well.
