Makers shows off accessory lineup for ragtop.

by on Feb.12, 2015

Mazda introduced its new 2016 MX-5 Miata decked out in a slew of accessories from the maker.

Mazda’s MX-5 Miata is the best-selling two-seater convertible on the planet, in some measure, because of its simple, yet impressive design. However, the automaker rolled out an accessorized Miata in Chicago to show what can be done to dress up the ragtop.

“The MX-5 is the soul of our company, and its enthusiast following both inside and outside of Mazda drives us to keep innovating new ideas for it and the rest of our lineup,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations.

Mazda Planning to Go Racing with New Miata

Maker plans to sponsor global racing cup.

by on Nov.05, 2014

Mazda is ready to take the next-generation Miata out on the race track.

It’s still a year away from production, but Mazda is already planning to take its next-generation Miata out on the track, the Japanese maker announced during the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

That should come as little surprise considering the little roadster is already hailed as the most widely raced vehicle on the road, both in professional and amateur programs around the world. And a new powertrain and an overall reduction of more than 200 pounds in mass for the 2016 model should just enhance the car’s appeal on the motorsports circuit.

2010 Mazda Miata: 20 years later

2010 Mazda Miata: 20 years later

“It was 20 years ago, today…” or so the Beatles might have been saying if they were in hand at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show to celebrate two decades of the Mazda Miata.

It’s hard to recall how much has changed since the first of those little roadsters rolled into the Windy City, for the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. The Berlin Wall had yet to fall. The first George Bush was in the White House. And as far as Conventional Wisdom was concerned, the 2-seat sports car was effectively dead

So, when Mazda pulled the wraps off the first Miata,” It was considered a fad,” and one not likely to gain much traction, says Mazda North America’s CEO, Jim O’Sullivan, who served as master of ceremonies for the launch of the 2010 Mazda Miata. And with 900,000 of the roadsters sold, over the last 20 years, O’Sullivan seemed confident the Miata will be around for a little longer.
