Lexus Releases First Official Look at UX “Urban Crossover”

Luxury brand getting into rapidly growing segment.

Lexus eliminated all of the mystery heading into Geneva by offering up a full view of the new UX.

Little more than a week ahead of its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Lexus is offering up its first view of the new UX “urban crossover.”

It’s a slightly toned-down version of the UX unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2016, Lexus at the time insisting it was only a concept, though it was immediately apparent the automaker wanted to dive into one of the world’s fastest-growing product segments.

“These first visuals reveal the UX’s bold and stylish design that blends expressive bodywork with a compact size,” the Japanese automaker said in a release accompanying these images. “Its crossover credentials are signaled by its muscular haunches and high beltline, yet underneath the skin there’s an all-new platform that gives the UX exceptional body rigidity and a low center of gravity for exceptional handling.” (more…)

Lexus is filling a hole in its line-up with the UX compact crossover.

The eagerly awaited Lexus UX is finally set to make the transition from concept to production, Toyota’s luxury brand set to pull the wraps off the compact crossover at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

With utility vehicles gaining ground on conventional sedans and coupes in virtually every major market, the Lexus UX will fill another critical niche, the fast-growing compact crossover segment, just below the brand’s current NX model.

While the teaser image Lexus has released has been designed to keep most details hidden, it does reveal a few interesting things. The production UX, for one thing, apparently carries over the subtle fins shown on the earlier NX concept. Meanwhile, a bit of Photoshop magic uncovers what appeared to be a UX 250h badge, indicating a hybrid version of the new ute is in the plans. Luxury version of Ford Escape moves closer to production.

In its bid to once again be taken seriously in the luxury market, Ford Motor Co. has outlined a plan to launch four critical new models by mid-decade – with a number of other offerings to follow.

The first of those, the MKZ sedan, got off to a rocky start but is finally gaining traction – just as the spotlight shifts to the next key product in the Lincoln strategy.  We got a first look at the marque’s planned compact crossover during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Now, TheDetroitBureau.com’s veteran spy, Jim Dunne, has captured images of the small CUV undergoing testing around Detroit.

Due to reach market for the 2015 model-year – which means an introduction in mid-2014 – the Lincoln MKC will be based upon the same basic platform as the latest-generation Ford Escape.  And, as you might recall, Escape migrated from a traditional body-on-frame to a crossover platform when it was relaunched for the 2013 model-year.
