Lexus Confirms Detroit Launch of GS F Performance Sedan

Brand looking to transform staid image.

by on Jan.06, 2015

The Lexus GS F sedan, which combines a refined four-door package with the speed and agility of a premium sports car, will debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

With the Detroit Auto Show press preview just days away, Lexus has confirmed what was already one of the show’s worst-kept secrets: plans to launch an all-new high performance version of its mid-range GS sedan.

To be called the GS F, it is intended to help transform the staid image of a brand better known for its high-mileage hybrid models. The 2016 Lexus GS F will join the maker’s small but expanding performance line, alongside the RC F coupe launched last year.

On Top of the News!

Lexus has hinted it has yet another high-performance model in the works, speculation focusing on a possible new supercar to replace the now out-of-production LFA. Some news could also be announced during the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit. (more…)

Lexus Fills in the Blanks on the New RC Coupe

RC F model to feature 467-hp V-8.

by on Sep.05, 2014

Lexus intends to pump up its performance with the launch of the new RC coupe line.

Traditionally known for its value and reliability, Lexus has been pushing to broaden its appeal, especially to younger enthusiasts, with a more “passionate” line-up. So it’s betting heavily on the upcoming launch of its new RC Coupe.

More than just a renamed version of the old Lexus IS line, the 2+2 Lexus RC adopts a much more sporty design language – including the most sinister version yet of the brand’s signature “spindle” grille.

It also will feature a new high-performance model that skips the hybrid drivelines Lexus has long favored for a 467-horsepower V-8.

The 2015 Lexus RC could be critical to building momentum for Lexus which has lately regained its position as sales leader in the U.S. luxury car market.

The 2-door model is said to ride on its own chassis, though Lexus acknowledges that it blended the front end of the bigger GS platform with the rear of the IS sport sedan.

Lexus Counts on F Sport to Improve Sales

Line-up competes against luxury sport models.

by on Aug.01, 2014

Based on the success of its IS F Sport line-up, Lexus is expanding the portfolio to the NX and RX models.

The F Sport models will play a bigger role at Lexus going forward.

The F Sport version of the new Lexus IS 250 and Lexus IS 350 has been a major success, accounting for roughly half of all sales of the new IS Lexus last year according to Owen Peacock, Lexus’ national marketing manager.

“The F Sport makes up 50% of the IS sales mix and the average buyer is five to 12 years younger for the than standard model,” he added. (more…)

Lexus Rounds Out RC Line with New F Sport

Maker adds third model to new coupe family.

by on Feb.28, 2014

The Lexus RC 350 F Sport falls in-between the "base" RC 350 and the RC F models.

Lexus has been using the word “passion” a lot lately, both in terms of design and performance, and it appears ready to back that up when it comes to the launch of the new RC Coupe later this year.

We’ve already seen two sporty versions of the new 2-door, the RC 350 and the RC F, and it turns out we’ll be getting a look at a third model at the Geneva Motor Show next week, the Lexus RC 350 F Sport rounding out the new line.

Always There!

For those not quite familiar with Lexus nomenclature – and it can be confusing – models designated with a simple “F” are the sportiest in the line-up.  Those dubbed F Sport are a little less extreme.

Lexus Upping Performance Quotient with New RC-F

"Back to the grind" takes on a new meaning.

by on Jan.08, 2014

Lexus is back in the performance game with the new RC F set to debut in Detroit next week.

With rare exception, Lexus isn’t a brand folks typically associate with performance.  The asterisk on the line-up was the original Lexus IS-F, a V-8-powered monster that gave German competitors like the M3 reason to keep a watchful eye on the rearview mirror.

With parent Toyota Motor Co. CEO Akio Toyoda promising to put more “passion” into the brand, Lexus is ready to show that the IS-F wasn’t a fluke.  It’s been hinting for weeks that something sinister was in the works and now we’re getting more than just a series of teasers as the Japanese luxury maker lifts the current on the new Lexus RC F.

Auto Show Insider!

The performance coupe, the maker asserts, is “giving new meaning to ‘back to the grind,” with a big V-8 engine that is expected to deliver something in excess of the original IS-F model’s 407 horsepower.  Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for the formal debut during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week to get precise numbers.

Lexus Teases New High-Performance F Model

Debut Detroit planned; is this the new RC Coupe?

by on Dec.09, 2013

Lexus offers a tease of its next F model.

Lexus has dropped a teaser that will likely have lots of folks scratching their heads over the next month trying to figure out what “the newest Lexus F model” actually will be.

The luxury arm of Toyota has been trying to engineer more performance into its products over the last several years, and with its various F models drawing in the sort of younger buyers it’s desperate to attract, there’s little surprise that Lexus has a big unveiling planned for the North American International Auto Show when it opens up in Detroit next month.

But, at least for the moment, we’re left with little more than this close-up of the front-left fender and a few tantalizing hints from Lexus, which declares, “Engineered from scratch, one performance layer at a time, the newest F model promises a bold, gritty, experience synonymous with the famed Lexus F heritage.”

Lexus GS F Sport Debuts at SEMA

Adding some passion to a traditionally staid brand.

by on Nov.02, 2011

Lexus hopes to deliver a more passioned driving experience with the new GS F Sport.

Toyota is hoping to pump a little passion into its traditionally staid luxury brand Lexus, and is betting the new GS F Sport will be a major piece in that grand transformation.

The second model to wear the “F” badge is making its formal debut at this year’s SEMA Show, the annual aftermarket extravaganza in Las Vegas.

Most luxury buyers “don’t put ‘Lexus’ and ‘performance’ into the same sentence,” admits Brian Smith, the Toyota subsidiary’s vice president and general manager.  But that, he hopes, has begun to change – first with the launch of the Lexus IS-F muscle car and, now, with the addition of the GS F Sport.

Power Up!

The latest offering shares most of its fundamentals with the Lexus GS350, which was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance back in August.  (Click Here for a closer look at that  sedan.)

The new model is “the first to wear the new face of Lexus,” proclaimed Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, during the California preview, a new “spindle grille” framed by hockey stick-shaped LCD running lamps.  The overall shape of the car is more angular and distinctive, as well.
