Lexus LF-LC Concept Offers a Good Look at Luxury Brand’s Future

Show car boasts curvaceous design, hydrogen powertrain, gesture controls and a hologram.

by on Oct.28, 2015

The Lexus LF-LC concept rolls onto the stage at the Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday.

Luxury brand Lexus has rolled out a number of concept vehicles in recent years but, with only a few, rare exceptions, they’ve been little more than fantasies in chrome. But the new Lexus LF-LC unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday is likely to be one of those exceptions.

From a design standpoint, what you see is likely to be – close to — what you’ll get with the next-generation Lexus LS sedan, a senior official told Whether we’ll also see such features as gesture-control electronics and a “hologram guide,” never mind the hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain, well, that’s another matter entirely

The luxury arm of Toyota is “constantly striving to deliver awe-inspiring experiences,” said Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus International President, as the current rolled back to reveal the LF-LC Concept vehicle.

Lexus LF-C2 Concept Offers Strong Hint of Future Design Direction

Brand may hit 300,000 in sales for 2014.

by on Nov.20, 2014

The Lexus LF-C2 concept is likely to influence the design of several of the brand's vehicles in the future.

With the 25th anniversary of its debut, Lexus rolled out a new concept car, the LF-C2 Coupe, with lines and design language that will figure prominently in the Japanese luxury brand’s future vehicles.

“The LF-C2 concept shows what’s in store for our brand’s future design direction,” said Jeff Bracken, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “This concept shows consumers around the world Lexus’ devotion to emotional designs.”

Be a Winner!

Consumers have been fond of the current Lexus designs as well. Bracken added that Lexus continuing success has helped push its sales beyond its original target of 290,000 units. The brand’s sales were at 244,038 units through October, which is up 14.3% for the year. (more…)

Lexus Teases LF-C2 Concept Coming to LA Auto Show

Convertible likely to join expanding line-up at Japanese luxury brand.

by on Nov.12, 2014

Is the LF-C2 a convertible version of the Lexus LF-LC or a new take on the Lexus RC Coupe?

This teaser image from Lexus begs a few puns, and it’s easy to suggest that the concept coming to the Los Angeles Auto Show next week is likely to eclipse the old SC430 convertible that the Japanese maker pulled from production a few years back.

A terse press release says that, “On November 19, at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Lexus LF-C2 Concept will make its global debut. This exciting new open-air concept will be revealed at a press conference scheduled for 1:40 p.m. in the brand’s display located in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.”

So, what are we likely to discover next week, and will it leave us howling at the moon?  Two very different possibilities emerge.

Lexus Rolling out Revamped LF Concept at Tokyo

Makers tweaking concepts for multiple shows.

by on Nov.04, 2013

Lexus is bringing at tweaked version of the LF-NX concept vehicle to the Tokyo Motor Show.

The string of concept cars coming to the Tokyo Motor Show just got a little longer with Lexus announcement it’ll have one for the event later this month: the LF-NX crossover.

The “new” concept is actually the same vehicle it showed at the Frankfurt Motor Show with a few modifications, including a newly developed 2.0-liter turbo-charged engine.

Lexus Explores Compact Crossover Options with LF-NX Concept

Debut scheduled for Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

by on Sep.04, 2013

Lexus is introducing its new LF-NX Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

While its key European competitors have rapidly expanded their line-ups in recent years, Lexus has motored along with a relative handful of offerings. But, as previously reported, it has been studying its options in the fast-growing compact crossover niche.

We should get a good sense of what Lexus has in mind during its news conference at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week when the Toyota luxury division lifts the covers off the Lexus LF-NX show car.

“This concept explores the potential for a compact crossover within the Lexus model range,” the maker said in a terse news release accompanying these teaser images. (more…)

First Look: Lex LF-CC Concept

Premium midsize coupe prototype to debut in Paris.

by on Sep.17, 2012

The Lexus LF-CC offers a hint of a future premium midsize coupe hybrid to come from Lexus.

Lexus will unveil an all-new hybrid sports coupe at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, a rear-drive 2+2 that may offer some hints of the additional models the maker plans to add to its luxury line-up.

The Lexus LF-CC will target the premium midsize coupe segment, the Toyota luxury brand reveals. And as these initial images underscore, the new concept model will lift some of its key design cues from the well-reviewed Lexus LF-LC supercar concept that was introduced at the Detroit Motor Show last January.

Your News Source!

Lexus “is absolutely dedicated to hybrids,” the brand’s U.S. boss, Mark Templin, stressed in an interview with last month.  By mid-decade, he promised, the brand will have eight, possibly even nine, gas-electric offerings in its line-up. Some of those will be dedicated models, like the HS 250h. Others will be hybrid options, such as the LS 600h package offered on the maker’s newly updated flagship sedan. A hybrid supercar is very much under consideration, hinted Templin.

Now It’s Official: Lexus Releases LF-Lc Pics

by on Dec.21, 2011

Lexus offers up an official image of the LF-Lc concept.

Well, Lexus has made it official.  Pics of the maker’s new concept car inadvertently leaked out as Road & Track magazine got ready to release its new issue.  So the maker decided the rest of us deserved a closer look and sent over the first official shots of the Lexus LF-Lc show car, rather than the close-up teaser that the Toyota luxury division had previously released.

While we’re now able to get a good look at the 2-door 4-seater Lexus still isn’t providing any pertinent details, hoping we’ll still show up at the maker’s Detroit Auto Show news conference next month.

Stay in the Know!

Nonetheless, a few relevant bits can be gleaned, as reported earlier:

“…insiders offer hints it could be the concept version of an eventual replacement for the slow-selling Lexus SC430.

“As seen here a few specifics can be deduced from the images: the concept apparently opts for a targa top, rather than the folding hardtop of the awkward SC430.  Both vehicles appear to be roughly the same size and the new model maintains the 2-door design of the current hardtop cabrio.  But it appears to add two rear seats.  Functional?  Well, that remains to be seen.

Lexus Concept to Reveal New Design Direction

Pumping passion into the brand?

by on Dec.12, 2011

Lexus offers a tease of the new styling concept it plans to unveil in Detroit next month.

The folks at Lexus (and parent Toyota) seem to be making it a requirement to use the word, “passion” whenever possible.  It certainly has been a hallmark of comments made by CEO Akio Toyoda in recent months, especially when he has turned the topic to the maker’s high-line Lexus brand.

According to the grandson of Toyota Motor Co.’s founder, the goal is to dial up the emotional factor for a marque that has tended to be staid and solid but decidedly not passionate in its first two decades.  We got a hint of the more expressive Lexus with the recent launch of the 2013 GS sedan.  (Click Here for more on the Lexus GS.)
