Kia Promises 124 Miles Range from Soul EV

Recharging times of five hours or less.

by on Nov.12, 2013

Kia plans to introduce its new Soul EV in the middle of the 2014 model year. It can travel as far as 124 miles on a single charge.

Kia is about to get into the battery-car game with a new electric version of its quirky Soul crossover, and the maker claims the Soul EV will deliver “class-leading range” of more than 120 miles per charge.

The battery version will be based on the newly redesigned gas-powered Kia Soul which just came to market in time for the 2014 model-year.  Though the Korean carmaker won’t have a production version to show for some time, it is giving a hint of what’s to come with an image of a thinly disguised Soul EV – while also providing some initial technical details.

Kia will reveal the battery version of the new 2014 Soul at one of the upcoming US auto shows.

Kia is preparing to roll out a battery-powered version of the latest-generation Soul crossover next year.

Michael Sprague, Kia’s vice president of marketing communication, would not say when the Korean company planned to put the new EV on sale nor when it would be unveiled, however.

“We plan to make news at all four major auto shows, L.A., Detroit, Chicago and New York,” Sprague hinted. However, the Los Angeles Auto Show has gained a reputation in recent years as the place for launching “green” vehicles such as the battery-electric version of the Chevrolet Spark unveiled there last year.

Battery car to make Paris debut next month.

Kia isn't saying much about its battery-powered Electric Pop concept, which makes a Paris Motor Show debut, next month.

It’s that time of year.  The biennial Paris Motor Show is little more than six weeks away and automakers are beginning to give us some hints of what they’ll be pulling the wraps off at the Mondial de l’Automobile.

The list starts with Kia, which has provided us these teaser shots of something it has dubbed the Electric Pop, which will make its formal debut on September 30th.

Other than that, the maker isn’t saying much.  Its terse release advises us that, “Kia’s three-metre three-seater boasts zero-emissions and brings innovative design chic to the city car segment with its dramatic styling.”   End of story.  At least the official one.
