The Kia KCD12 concept vehicle takes aim at the large, high-line crossover segment.

Kia will roll out the latest in its long-running series of KCD concept vehicles at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

Dubbed the KCD12, the show car will offer a solid glimpse of what the Korean carmaker has in mind for the full-size crossover segment, slotting in above its current Sorento model, a company source told TheDetroitBureau.com.

What a Concept!

Kia Making a Splash with All-New Sportage for 2017

Upscale interior matches redesigned exterior in Frankfurt debut.

The 2017 Kia Sportage gets an exterior redesign giving it a more aggressive look.

Realizing the importance that midsize crossovers and sport-utes mean to the bottom line of automakers, Kia’s looking to make a splash in the segment with the redesigned Kia Sportage for 2017.

The new model not only adopts Kia’s uniform front end, like that of the new Sedona, but also the headlights are higher up on the hood than the previous model. It also has longer rear doors and a higher beltline giving it a more aggressive stance while also improving access to the back seat. (more…)

Considering ongoing market trends, it’s probably no surprise we’re seeing so many products that slip into the nebulous crossover category. The recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit was full of them and we’ll be seeing still more before the show season wraps up.

Your Auto Source!

That includes a new “premium” crossover-utility vehicle from Korea, the Kia Cross GT scheduled to make its debut at the Chicago Auto Show in little more than a week.

The maker has released a first teaser image of what it confirms will be larger than the current 2014 Sorrento. It brings to mind the size gap between the 2- and 3-row versions of the Santa Fe launched this year by sibling maker Hyundai.
