Jaguar Likely Boosting Limited Run of “Track-Focused” XKR-S-GT

Additional models to come for Europe, possibly elsewhere.

by on Apr.12, 2013

Jaguar may boost production of the "track-focused" XKR-S -- though not for the U.S. market.

Jaguar apparently didn’t know it would have a hit on its hands when it unveiled the “track-focused” XKR-S GT at the New York International Auto Show a few weeks back.

One of three new high-performance R-line models to be added to the British marque’s line-up in recent months, that mouthful of a name is being branded on a version of the familiar XK equipped with a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 upgraded to make a tire-spinning 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque.  That is enough to propel the Jaguar XKR-S GT from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds.

And despite a $174,000 price tag, the XKR-S GT has generated enough buzz that Jaguar is thinking of boosting production by as much 50%. Of course, one has to consider that in perspective. The original run was only planned to total 30, including 25 for the U.S. and the rest for Canada.

The new "track-focused" Jaguar XKR-S.

You better look quick. Jaguar is billing its new XKR-S GT as its fastest production model ever – and with only a handful planned to roll off the British maker’s assembly line, it doesn’t expect them to be around for long.

“This is our most track-focused car yet,” engineering director Pete Simkin pronounced during a media sneak peek prior to the official unveiling of the super-coupe at the New York International Auto Show this week.

The Jaguar XKR-S GT starts out as the maker’s big sports coupe but undergoes a number of modifications designed to boost both performance and handling.  And while that includes a number of body modifications, Simkin stresses that “every exterior element has a function.”

Jaguar Adding New 550-hp XJR Flagship

Performance sedan to debut at NY Auto Show.

The new Jaguar flagship, the 2014 XJR.

Jaguar is getting an all-new flagship, the 550-horsepower XJR, scheduled to make its debut at the New York Auto Show next week.

It’s the latest spin-off of the big Jaguar XJ sedan as well as the newest member of the expanding Jaguar R performance line-up. The maker promises to not only boost the performance of the 2014 Jaguar XJR but add “a raft of other modifications,” in line with keeping the R series the British marque’s most lavishly appointed line.

“It is clear that performance will continue to lie at the heart and soul of the brand,” said Andy Goss, President of Jaguar Land Rover North America. “To that end, the growing R performance lineup offers our customers truly elevated dynamics and design, but in a Jaguar luxury package. The Jaguar XJR is a British performance machine that delivers emotionally and dynamically on the road and on the track.”

Jaguar Teases New XFR-S

Marque’s most powerful, fastest sedan ever.

by on Nov.20, 2012

The most powerful Jaguar sedan ever, the new XFR-S will debut in LA this month.

It’s a green scene at this year’s LA Auto Show, all manner of battery-based hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles scheduled for debut. But for those who like a little more go than show, don’t fret. Among the other offerings headed for the LA Convention Center, Jaguar will pull the wraps off its fastest and most powerful “saloon” car yet.

The 2013 Jaguar XFR-S is the British marque’s more functional alternative to its XKR-S coupe, both models sharing the same supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 making an impressive 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque.

Stay on Top!

In the coupe, that’s enough to deliver 0 to 60 times of around 4.2 seconds, though the sedan might lag a tenth or two because of its added weight.

Jaguar promises to keep it exclusive, only 100 of the XFR-S sedans scheduled to land in U.S. showrooms for the 2014 model-year.  Based on the XKR-S, anticipate a price tag somewhere in the range of $100,000 to $130,000.

Jaguar's C-X16 concept will get its U.S. debut at the L.A. Auto Show.

Jaguar will lift the covers on the most powerful convertible it has ever produced during the upcoming L.A. Auto Show – one of a number of debuts scheduled for the annual automotive event.

The maker’s news conference will be anchored by the preview of the Jaguar XKR-S, which will be paired in showrooms with the recently-launched XKR-S Coupe — introduced in Geneva earlier this year – both making a full 550 horsepower, more than any other product in the marque’s history.

The L.A. Show preview will also bring the North American debut of a number of other concepts and production vehicles from Jaguar, including the well-received C-X16 hybrid concept, and the Land Rover DC100.

First Look: Jaguar XKR-S Super Coupe

When 510 hp just isn’t enough.

The new muscle king in the Jaguar line-up, the XKR-S.

For some folks, 510 horsepower just isn’t enough.  That’s why Jaguar will roll into the Geneva Motor Show with the XKR-S Super Coupe.

Its debut coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the legendary Jaguar E-Type, the XKR-S will deliver a whopping 550 hp and 502 lb-feet of torque, enough the maker says, to propel it from 0 to 60 in just 4.2 seconds – on the way to a top speed of 186 mph.

Details will be released at the Geneva Motor Show, but the powertrain is reported to be a modified version of the current XKR’s 5.0-liter V8.

“We expect to attract both loyal and new Jaguar driving enthusiasts who still want the comfort, opulence and class only a Jaguar can offer, combined with inspirational performance,” proclaims Jag’s new global brand executive, Adrian Hallmark.
