Jaguar Adding New Wagon…er…Sportbrake to Line-up

XF Sportbrake due in American showrooms for the first time.

An aerial view of the 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake.

A rose by any other name? For most American motorists, the word, “wagon” carries with it a whiff of rotten eggs. So, most manufacturers either avoid the two-box body style entirely or hope to find a more pleasing alternative, such as Jaguar’s “Sportbrake.”

We’re getting a look at the next wagon, er, Sportbrake to come from the British automaker in a teaser released this week. It gives us an overhead image of the new model, as well as an outline painted onto the main court at the tennis mecca of Wimbledon.

Hitch Yer Wagons!

Whatever you wish to call it, expected to see the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake join the maker’s line-up in Europe a few months from now. And for those Americans who love a wagon, whatever it’s called, it’ll finally make its way to U.S. dealerships as well, this time around.

Jaguar Unveils New XFR-S Sportbrake

Will join expanding line-up in Geneva.

by on Feb.25, 2014

Coming to Geneva: the new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake and XF R-Sport diesel sedan.

Call it a wagon, an estate, a sporting brake or whatever other euphemism you might come up with, the term that is most likely to apply to the new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake is likely to be “fast.”

The British maker has long bounced back and forth about whether to add a wagon-like model to its line-up and only recently added one with the base XF Sportbrake.  While we’ve not had the good fortune to get that model added to the U.S. line-up it’s been gaining ground in the much more wagon-friendly European market.

Auto Show News!

Now, Jaguar is giving the Sportbrake the full performance treatment seen in the rest of XF line-up and we’ll get our first look at it in the sheet metal next week when the annual Geneva Motor Show stages its two-day media preview.

But Jaguar is already giving us a good hint of what’s in store.

Jaguar Bringing XF Sportbrake to Geneva

Images of wagon leak ahead of Geneva.

by on Feb.28, 2012

An image of the Jaguar XF Sportbrake leaked ahead of schedule, it seems.

The long-awaited Jaguar XF Sportbrake will be rolling into Geneva’s PALExpo Convention Center next week, it seems, and thanks to a brochure falling into the wrong hands we’ve got these preliminary pics to show our readers before we get a look at the wagon in the flesh, so to speak, at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Considering the strong popularity of station wagons – aka “shooting brakes” in Brit-speak – it’s a surprise that it has taken Jaguar so long to bring into its line-up after a few false starts over the decades.

But the maker is now on a roll, along with its British sibling Land Rover, and between them they plan more than three dozen new products, variants and major powertrain launches before mid-decade, according to senior company officials.

The brochure images – which align with recent spy shots – reveal that from the B-pillar forward Jaguar has maintained the basic look of the XF sedan.  But from mid-body back it’s all-new, including the use of black-out trim that appears lifted from the bigger Jaguar XJ.
