Jaguar’s Legendary XKSS Comes Back to Life

"I had to build in those idiosyncracies."

by on Nov.21, 2016

Kevin Riches led the team that created the nine Jaguar XKSS continuation cars.

The fire moved quickly, and with devastating results, leaving little more than ashes and molten metal where Jaguar’s Brown’s Lane factory once stood.

The disaster that struck on February 12, 1957 nearly destroyed the British maker and ruined its plans to build 25 XKSS roadsters, basically a road-going version of the D-Type race car that had dominated Le Mans for much of the mid-decade. Only 16 had been completed, the remaining nine still in various stages of production.

Classic Car News!

But nearly 60 years later, the remaining cars will finally be completed, thanks to the British marque’s Jaguar Classic division. It’s not the first time an automaker has tried to revive one of its historic models. There are a number of recreations and plenty of “restomods.” What Jaguar has come up with is an amazingly precise continuation, accurate down to the five different type of rivets used on the original 16 roadsters.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible shown during a London sneak preview this week.

It will take some fast talking by officials from Jaguar Land Rover when they get their turn in the spotlight next week. The British maker plans to introduce three new models during the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show media preview.

They cover a wide mix of offerings, each aimed at broadening the reach of the traditionally narrow JLR line-up. That includes the first auto show appearance of the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, the unveiling of the U.S.-spec Jaguar XE sedan, and the first North American appearance of the Jaguar F-Pace crossover-utility vehicle.

The three new models emerge from the largest capital investment program in Jaguar Land Rover history, the Indian-owned automaker spending about 3 billion British pounds, or $4.5 billion, annually on both product development and the opening of new plants in China, India, Brazil and Slovakia.

Jaguar Reveals New “Instinctive” AWD F-Type R Coupe

LA Auto Show debut to feature land speed record holder Andy Green.

by on Nov.06, 2014

Jaguar's new F-Type R Coupe with "instinctive" AWD is shown preparing for a run in South Africa.

Jaguar is punching up the performance quotient of its popular F-Type Coupe with an R edition that helps put all its power to the pavement with a new “instinctive” all-wheel-drive system.

To get the word out about the system, meanwhile, the automaker is partnering up with Bloodhound SSC, a British team setting out for a world land speed record in excess of 1,000 mph.

Gain Traction!

The new F-Type R Coupe AWD system is one of a number of performance enhancements that Jaguar will reveal during the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, Vehicle Line Director Ian Hoban saying, “Our target with engineering the all-wheel-drive F-TYPE was to maintain the engaging rear-drive character that’s so important to Jaguar sports cars, yet offer even greater dynamic capability.”

Jaguar to Reveal New F-Type Coupe at LA Auto Show

North American launch in spring 2014.

by on Nov.05, 2013

The Coupe version of the Jaguar F-Type will reach U.S. dealer showrooms next spring.

Hoping to expand upon the success of its new F-Type convertible, Jaguar plans to introduce a coupe version of the sports car at the upcoming LA Auto Show and follow up with an Asian preview at the Tokyo Motor Show a day later.

Dubbed the “spiritual successor” to the legendary E-Type, the Jaguar F-Type has scored a long list of kudos – and strong sales – since its debut earlier this year, including honors as the World Car Design of the Year.

Performing for You!

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the F-Type Convertible, but for me the purity of creating a sports Coupe is a uniquely satisfying process – and I know that both visually and dynamically, F-Type Coupe raises the bar yet again,” said Jaguar’s global design director Ian Callum.

Jaguar Teases New XFR-S

Marque’s most powerful, fastest sedan ever.

by on Nov.20, 2012

The most powerful Jaguar sedan ever, the new XFR-S will debut in LA this month.

It’s a green scene at this year’s LA Auto Show, all manner of battery-based hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles scheduled for debut. But for those who like a little more go than show, don’t fret. Among the other offerings headed for the LA Convention Center, Jaguar will pull the wraps off its fastest and most powerful “saloon” car yet.

The 2013 Jaguar XFR-S is the British marque’s more functional alternative to its XKR-S coupe, both models sharing the same supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 making an impressive 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque.

Stay on Top!

In the coupe, that’s enough to deliver 0 to 60 times of around 4.2 seconds, though the sedan might lag a tenth or two because of its added weight.

Jaguar promises to keep it exclusive, only 100 of the XFR-S sedans scheduled to land in U.S. showrooms for the 2014 model-year.  Based on the XKR-S, anticipate a price tag somewhere in the range of $100,000 to $130,000.

Jaguar Ready to Give C-X16 Show Car Nod for Production

Final decision may rest on response at LA Auto Show.

by on Nov.16, 2011

Jaguar will decide in a matter of weeks whether to produce the C-X16 sports car.

With its subtle stylistic link to the classic Jaguar E-Type, the British maker’s C-X16 concept has been winning rave reviews in recent months and company officials appear poised to give the show car the go for production “before the end of the year,” according to a senior Jaguar official.

A final decision will likely depend on the response the C-X16 gets when it goes on display at this week’s L.A. Auto Show, where it will vie for attention alongside the maker’s new XKR-S sports coupe.  Should management give the show car the nod it would almost certainly reach showrooms sometime during the 2013 calendar year, company officials confirmed.

Your Inside Source!

In production, Jaguar’s global brand boss Adrian Hallmark tells, it is highly likely that a special high-performance plug-in hybrid system will be among the C-X16’s powertrain options.  But Jaguar officials also stressed that the production version would likely lose a few of the distinctive features of the concept car, notably including the swing-open hatchback.

Jaguar XKR-S To Debut at L.A. Auto Show

British marque and sibling Land Rover will be busy.

by on Nov.10, 2011

Jaguar's C-X16 concept will get its U.S. debut at the L.A. Auto Show.

Jaguar will lift the covers on the most powerful convertible it has ever produced during the upcoming L.A. Auto Show – one of a number of debuts scheduled for the annual automotive event.

The maker’s news conference will be anchored by the preview of the Jaguar XKR-S, which will be paired in showrooms with the recently-launched XKR-S Coupe — introduced in Geneva earlier this year – both making a full 550 horsepower, more than any other product in the marque’s history.

It's Free!

The L.A. Show preview will also bring the North American debut of a number of other concepts and production vehicles from Jaguar, including the well-received C-X16 hybrid concept, and the Land Rover DC100.
