Hyundai to Add Hybrid, Plug-In Versions of Latest Sonata Sedan

It's green at the Chicago Auto Show this year.

by on Feb.08, 2018

The new Hyundai Sonata comes as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid version for the 2018 model year.

There may be plenty of white stuff swirling around the frigid Windy City, but it’s green inside Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center – at least if you’re at the Hyundai stand.

The Korean carmaker has been slow to embrace new battery technologies but it’s making up for lost time. It’s planning to add a veritable blizzard of battery and hydrogen-powered models during the next five years, and the rollout gains momentum with the launch of both conventional hybrid and plug-in versions of the midsize Hyundai Sonata sedan at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.

News Now!

“When combined with Hyundai’s outstanding value and efficiency, the new Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in are sure to attract even more eco-focused buyers,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning at Hyundai Motor America. (more…)

Hyundai Hops into Hot Hatch Hullabaloo with New GT

New Elantra GT provides improved performance.

by on Feb.09, 2017

Hyundai is jumping into the hot hatch segment with the new 2018 Elantra GT.

Like so many other makers, Hyundai’s recent new product focus has zeroed in on electric vehicles. However, industry observers all seem to agree that the South Korean maker needs to fill the truck gap in its line-up.

So, of course, if the company’s got a new vehicle in to unveil at the Chicago Auto Show, it’s only natural that it’s a … small, sporty car!

Hyundai Blows Into Chicago with Updated Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport SUVs

Korean carmakers aims to stay relevant in fast-moving SUV market.

by on Feb.11, 2016

Hyundai makes a number of changes to the 2017 Santa Fe line, including a new front fascia with a brushed-look grille and new headlamps.

By the millions, American motorists are migrating from conventional passenger cars to sport-utility vehicles and more car-like crossover models. And manufacturers are responding with a flood of new offerings.

So, it’s a challenge to keep existing models fresh and competitive – something Hyundai hopes to handle with the debut of updated versions of two key entries at the Chicago Auto Show. It boasts that the 2017 Santa Fe and smaller Santa Fe Sport models get not only a mid-cycle facelift but enhanced safety, convenience and connectivity features.

Auto Show News!

Hyundai is so upbeat about the prospects for the 2017 updates it is planning to boost capacity, notably adding production of the Santa Fe Sport at its manufacturing plant in Montgomery, Alabama. But it is also readying a slew of new utility vehicles to take advantage of shifting market trends.

First Look: Hyundai Elantra GT and Elantra Coupe

If they come, can you build them?

by on Feb.08, 2012

The new 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe with the already wildly popular Elantra sedan.

What do you do when you’re already short of cars to sell – as is the enviable problem faced by Hyundai with the compact Elantra model? How about adding a couple new variants likely to stimulate even more demand.

The Korean carmaker is clearly on a roll, with sales setting yet another new record for 2011, largely driven by demand for the Elantra, the original version of the sedan winning the North American Car of the Year trophy just last month.

News Now!

Now, the maker is offering potential buyers even more options, adding both a new Elantra Coupe and a sporty 5-door Elantra GT model for 2013. That will have Hyundai offering more distinct variants of the popular Elantra line than any competitor in the compact segment.
