GM’s July Sales Soar in China

Company tops 2 million deliveries for 2016.

GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien is excited about the continuing growth of sales in China.

With concerns growing about the future path of sales in the U.S., General Motors continues to see growth in China where sales grew 18% in July, according to the latest sales reports.

GM and its joint ventures delivered a July-record 270,529 vehicles in China, taking deliveries for 2016 past 2 million vehicles with the Buick, Cadillac and Baojun brands reaching all-time highs for the month, the company reported.

GM Sees China Sales Drop in July

Despite new products, sales fall for third straight month.

GM's sales in China were down 4% in July, but the debut of the new Buick Excelle is expected to bolster efforts for the second half of 2015.

Despite new product launches and an a product mix that includes more sport utility and multi-purpose vehicles, General Motors sales in China dropped by 4% in July.

It was the third consecutive monthly sales drop for GM and its joint ventures, which sold 229,175 vehicles across China. Sales were primarily impacted by model changeovers and the phasing out of older Chevrolet vehicles, GM officials said.

“We have had a series of successful product launches over the past few months, including the all-new Buick Excelle GT sedan and Baojun 560 SUV. This has helped us manage the current challenges facing the Chinese vehicle market,” said GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien. “These products are expected to support sales momentum for the balance of the year.” (more…)
