Rinspeed’s Autonomous XchangE Readying for Geneva Debut

Model S-inspired sedan aims to draw travelers.

XchangE, an autonomous vehicle concept from Swiss maker Rinspeed, will appear at this year's Geneva Auto Show.

Automakers of all types are working up ways to bring an autonomous vehicle to the market. There is plenty of trepidation on the part of potential consumers about how these vehicles will perform.

Fortunately, Rinspeed is not only focused on that, but also on how it will look. The Swiss specialty automaker released some photos of what its XchangE autonomous vehicle may look like and the words Tesla Model S spring to mind.

The company is planning on displaying the concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The maker looks like it simply dropped a lime green body kit from Tesla on to a chassis, including a front bumper with gaping air dams, lime green paint, yellow trim pieces, larger rims, and a rear spoiler. (more…)

VW Bets on “Ecological Restructuring” As Path to Global Leadership

Automaker announces environmental plan; will show hybrid crossover, GTI convertible, AWD Passat.

This version of Volkswagen's Cross Coupe is powered by a diesel-hybrid powertrain.

The Volkswagen Group plans to continue its assault on the title of world’s largest automaker with a new concept, a droptop version of its iconic sports compact and an announcement of a major new initiative for a “major ecological restructuring,” the automaker said in advance of the Geneva auto show.

VW will spend more than two-thirds of its five-year,  62.4 billion euro ($82.4 billion) budget on more efficient vehicles. The money will be spent on new powertrains and technologies, as well as environmentally compatible production at its plants around the world.

Saab Teases Design Concept Ahead of Geneva Auto Show

Saab is using this image to tease a new design concept at the Geneva Auto Show.

Listening to Victor Muller, last summer, it was easy to hear the car enthusiast that, at his core, he is.

He dreamed a little, while speaking at the Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, about building a new small Saab, returning the automaker he had just salvaged from the scrapheap of history, to its roots.

Now, just a year after Muller’s Spyker Automobiles swallowed the much larger Saab, he might be getting his wish.

2010 Maserati GranTurismo S Automatica debuts at 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Holding true to its promise to launch a new model at each major, international auto show, Maserati plans to pull the wraps off its new GranTurismo S Automatic at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

An automatic gearbox has been offered before on the sports car, but only with a downsized, 4.2-liter V-8. Now, the coupe will get the bigger 4.7-liter eight-banger, making a hefty 433 horsepower, and 362 pound-feet of torque. The new six-speed is provided by Germany’s ZF.
