GM, Ford Enjoy Strong June Sales in China

Matt Tsien, who heads up GM China, welcomed the jump in sales last month, led largely by SUV sales.

Sales in China by American carmakers perked up during June, offsetting the weakness earlier this year, with GM posting a 4.3% increase while Ford Motor Co. posted a double-digit increase of 15%.

Overall, for the first six months of 2017. GM’s sales in China declined 2.5% while Ford’s have dropped 7%. During June, GM and its joint ventures in China posted record sales as deliveries increased to 285,191 vehicles.

The Buick, Cadillac and Baojun brands all posted record results for June, and Chevrolet had its strongest growth in six months. Demand for SUVs, the key driver of GM’s sales growth, remained the company’s best-performing segment, surging 42% last month. (more…)

Ford Sales in China Jump While GM’s Fall

Automakers expect positive momentum going forward.

Ford's executive leadership team in China is excited about the sales prospects for the remainder of the year.

Ford Motor Co. said its sales in China rebounded during April after a sluggish March, but GM’s sales slipped by almost 2% despite strong sales of sport utility vehicles and the Cadillac brand.

Ford reported selling nearly 94,000 vehicles in April in China, up 11% compared to April 2016. Monthly sales for Changan Ford Automobile, Ford’s largest partner, totaled more than 62,000 vehicles, up 6% compared to the same time last year.

Jiangling Motor Corp. sold more than 25,000 vehicles in April, a 15% increase compared to April 2016. While Lincoln sales climbed by 95% to 4,500 units. (more…)

GM China Sales Continue Growth Spurt

GM China President Matt Tsien noted the company's mainstream passenger car entries helped GM to record sales in China last month.

Strong sales by Cadillac helped General Motors and its Chinese partners set a new sales record during August.

GM and its joint ventures delivered 293,537 vehicles in China, which was up 18% year over year. The Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet and Baojun brands reached all-time highs for the month, the company said.

GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien is excited about the continuing growth of sales in China.

With concerns growing about the future path of sales in the U.S., General Motors continues to see growth in China where sales grew 18% in July, according to the latest sales reports.

GM and its joint ventures delivered a July-record 270,529 vehicles in China, taking deliveries for 2016 past 2 million vehicles with the Buick, Cadillac and Baojun brands reaching all-time highs for the month, the company reported.

GM Enjoys Banner November Sales in China

SUV sales rise 231% during the month.

GM’s sales of utility vehicles surged 231% on an annual basis, led in part by the Buick Envision.

The pace of economic growth in China has slipped below 7%, but General Motors has managed to eke out monthly sales increases despite selling environment marked by prices cuts, rising inventories and intense competition from indigenous Chinese brands.

Despite concerns over the Chinese economy, GM and its joint ventures, with the help of an aggressive schedule of new product launches that started last summer, had their best November sales ever, the automaker said.

Sales by GM and its partners advanced 14% on an annual basis to 346,671 vehicles. During the first 11 months of 2015, retail sales by GM and its joint ventures in China have increased 4.1% on an annual basis to a record 3,166,791 units. (more…)

GM, Ford Enjoy Strong March Sales in China

Cadillac's March sales in China were 76% due in large measure to a strong interest in the ATS.

General Motors and Ford saw their vehicle sales grow in China during March despite concerns about the slower growth in the Chinese economy.

GM reported its sales increased 8% last month to a March-record 338,350 units. GM has 11 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 58,000 employees in China.

Ford Enjoys Record January Sales in China

GM sees drop as economic growth slows.

GM's sales in China fell in January as production couldn't keep up with demand.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times … or, when describing General Motors’ sales results in China last month, it was a subpar time.

Sales by GM and its joint venture partners in China dropped 2.4% during January as GM felt the impact of the slowing of the Chinese economy for the first time after years of steady growth.

Conversely, it was the best of times for Ford, as the maker reported record sales growth in China as it continued to benefit from its recent expansion in the Chinese market with sales increasing 19% from a year ago. (more…)
