NHTSA Investigating 841K Fusions Due to Steering Wheel Issue

Steering wheel came off while driver was turning.

NHTSA has launched an investigation into problems with the steering wheels in 2014-16 Ford Fusions.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced it has opened an investigation into 841,000 Ford Fusions due to reports of problems with car’s the steering wheel.

There have been three reports of steering wheel bolts coming loose on 2014-16 model year Fusions. In one case, the wheel came completely detached as a driver attempted to turn into a gas station.

Ford Recalling 52,000 F-250s Due to Rollaway Problem

Truck owners recommended to use parking brake in addition to putting truck in park.

Ford's F-Series truck was the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. in 2016 – the 35th year in a row.

Ford Motor Co. is issuing its second large recall in a week with its action on about 52,000 2017 F-250 trucks that may move while in park.

The automaker advises owners of trucks with the 6.2-liter models of the truck built at the Louisville, Kentucky plant from October 2015 until March 30, 2017, to use the vehicle’s parking brake in addition to putting it in park.

“A damaged park rod actuating plate might not achieve mechanical park within the automatic transmission after the driver moves the shift lever to park,” Ford said in a statement. (more…)

Ford Recalling 285,000 Vehicles

Automaker issues action for transmission, suspension and airbag problems.

Ford's Police Interceptor Utility is part of a recall of SUVs due to suspension issues.

Ford is recalling more than 280,000 sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks due to suspension and transmission issues.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker will recall 201,900 pickups due to a flaw in the transmission. A faulty speed sensor can cause it to downshift into first gear at the wrong time, potentially causing the driver to lose control or affect the vehicles around it.

Thus far, the automaker is aware of three accidents that have occurred due to the sensor on transmission model6R80. It is found on 2011-12 Ford F-150, 2012 Expedition and Mustangs built in Michigan from Aug. 19, 2011 through Feb. 12, 2012. (more…)

Ford Recalls Nearly 600K Vehicles

Problems include fuel pumps, steering gears and lights.

The Lincoln MKZ is part of a recall of nearly 520,000 Ford-produced vehicles for steering gear problems.

Ford announced recalls for nearly 600,000 vehicles for a variety problems involving steering gears, fuel pumps and parking lamps.

The automaker is recalling 520,000 2013-15 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles and 2015 Ford Edge vehicles in North America for a steering gear motor attachment issue. The problem is centralized in certain regions where corrosion is a problem. The steering gear motor attachment bolts may fracture due to corrosion. If that occurs, the steering system can default to manual steering mode from power steering making steering very difficult.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. In addition to the problem being regional, it only impacts vehicles built at plants and at certain times. Dealers will replace steering gear motor attachment bolts on customer vehicles with new bolts, seal them, and replace damaged steering gears at no cost to the customer. (more…)

Ford Recalling 850,000 Vehicles

Electric issue may cause airbags, seatbelts to fail.

Ford recalled 850,000-plus vehicles, including the 2013 Escape for the 12th time, due to an electrical problem that could cause the airbags to fail.

Ford announced a recall of 850,000 2013 and 2014 model year vehicles because an electrical problem could, in extreme cases, cause the vehicles airbags and seatbelt to fail.

The action affects the Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, Ford C-Max and Lincoln MKZ. Of the 850,000-plus vehicles in the recall, 746,842 were sold in the U.S. The rest were in Canada and Mexico.

The problem is with the restraints control module. It can develop a short that causes the airbag warning light to illuminate or the stability control stop working. However, depending upon where in the system the short develops, it could cause the airbags and the seatbelt pretensioners to falter during a collision. (more…)

Ford, Hyundai Add More Vehicles to 2014 Recall Parade

Two automakers recall more than 158,000 vehicles.

Ford is recalling 2013 and 2014 model year Taurus sedans for issues related to halfshafts. The maker is recalling 92,000 vehicles for the problem.

Ford and Hyundai issued seven recalls affecting nearly 160,000 vehicles for issues ranging from defective halfshafts to headliners to roof glass. Ford accounts for 101,000 of the vehicles in the actions.

The largest recall involves more than 92,000 model year 2013-2014 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Ford Police Interceptor, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT; 2012-2014 Ford Edge; and 2014 Lincoln MKX models. The issue involves the right-side halfshaft on the vehicles.

The vehicles in the recall may experience “loss of drive function,” Ford said, adding the vehicles could roll away if the gearshift is placed in park without the emergency brake being engaged. Ford dealers will inspect the halfshaft and repair or replace as needed. (more…)

Push for Record Continues as Ford Recalls 1.4 Million

Ford recalled 1.1 million 2008-2011 Ford Escapes, Mercury Mariners and Ford Explorers due to power steering issues.

Automakers in the U.S. are quickly closing in on the record for recalls of 30.4 million vehicles in 2004 with the latest round of actions announced by Ford today for 1.4 million vehicles.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based maker is recalling 1.1 million Ford Escapes, Mercury Mariners and Ford Explorers for power steering issues. The recalls are coming as U.S. and Canadian safety regulators step up the pressure on companies in light of General Motors’ current issues as well as other substantive problems by automakers in the recent past.

Ford Recalling More Vehicles for Rust Problems

Maker bringing in nearly 400,000 Escapes.

Ford is recalling nearly 400,000 2001-2004 Escapes to deal with rust issues.

Ford joined the ranks of automakers battling a persistent issue through a series of recalls as the automaker is recalling more than 434,000 vehicles due to rust issues.

The vehicles are part of two separate actions. Ford recalled 385,750 model-year 2001-2004 Escape SUVs because a subframe could fail because of rust and impact the ability to steer. About 349,000 of those Escapes were sold in the U.S.

Like General Motors, Toyota and Chrysler, Ford’s been battling an issue it cannot seem to resolve easily, in this case, rust on several of its older model vehicles. (more…)
