2019 Fusion to Be Ford’s “Most Technologically Sophisticated Sedan Ever”

But is the Fusion nameplate going to be around much longer?

by on Mar.20, 2018

The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi will boost its EV-mode range from 21 to 25 miles.

There’s been plenty of speculation in recent months about the long-term fate of the Ford Fusion but, at least for now, it will remain an anchor of the automaker’s sedan line-up and get some major new technologies for 2019.

The emphasis will be on safety, the 2019 Fusion introducing Ford’s new Co-Pilot360 driver assistance suite, company officials revealed during a background session ahead of the midsize model’s official debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. They also confirmed a big increase in EV-mode range for the plug-in hybrid version of the Fusion.

“The 2019 Fusion will be the most technologically advanced Ford sedan ever,” said Corey Holter, Ford’s Car Group Marketing Manager, during a media briefing in Detroit on Tuesday.

SUVs Could Soon Make Up Half U.S. New Vehicle Market

Prices also on rise as "customers choose more well-equipped vehicles."

by on Apr.11, 2017

Ford is pushing more luxury and tech features into the Explorer Platinum Edition for 2018.

Utility vehicles now account for 40% of the American market – and a disproportionate share of its profits – but demand is likely to keep growing and could soon reach 50% before leveling off, said a senior Ford Motor Co. executive ahead of this week’s New York International Auto Show, where a number of new SUVs and CUVs will make their debut.

Utes have become the hottest segment in the industry, in part because carmakers continue to find ways to surprise and delight customers with all manner of new designs and features, said Mark LaNeve, Ford’s head of sales, service and marketing. And where classic SUVs once required owners to “sacrifice” things like fuel economy and on-road comfort, today’s utes are nearly as efficient and comfortable as conventional sedans and coupes.

As a result, “We don’t see (the SUV sales boom) stopping,” said LaNeve, as Ford revealed two new versions of its popular Explorer SUV and announced plans to update the long-neglected Expedition model for the 2018 model-year.

It’s a big week for Ford as it celebrates the Golden Anniversary of that original pony car, the Mustang, which made its debut on April 17,1964 at the New York World’s Fair.

Ford is lighting the candles a day early with a birthday bash at the NY Auto Show but it’s also offering up something special for Mustang aficionados in the form of a 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang of which an appropriate 1,964 will be made.

Breaking News!

The special model is based on the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT with the added Performance Pack, and comes with pretty much anything you can tick on the option list.  Despite soft sales in recent months, the new model – and the Limited Edition, in particular – could generate some serious enthusiasm.

Ford Offers Look at 2015 Focus Sedan

Maker bills Focus as world’s best-seller - again - for 2013.

by on Apr.09, 2014

The new Ford Focus, which was introduced at the New York Auto Show, gets a more familial face with the 2015 update.

Ford is hoping to pull off a three-peat with its compact Focus model.  Laying claim to having the world’s best-selling passenger vehicle, the Detroit maker has pulled the covers off the updated Focus sedan it will launch later this year.

The 2015 Ford Focus will get a number of design changes, inside and out, along with a new 1.0-liter EcoBoost powertrain that should yield some of the best mileage numbers in the compact segment.  Also available for the next model-year will be a number of new or upgraded technical features, including the latest version of the Ford Sync infotainment system.

And a number of options normally found on more expensive product lines, such as a heated steering wheel, also will be available for 2015.

“I think the customer will be very pleased with what we’re going to do” with the updated Focus, said Seema Bardwaj, the vehicle’s brand manager, during a background briefing at Ford headquarters in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn.

Ford Races to Reverse Damage from Indian Ad Fiasco

Several Indian ad execs fired, broader shake-up likely.

by on Mar.27, 2013

One of three controversial "ads" for the Ford Figo that have created a global image nightmare for the Detroit-based automaker.

Anyone attempting to measure the damage from a series of ads produced by Ford Motor Co.’s Indian ad agency showing women bound and gagged and tossed in the trunk of one of its Figo hatchbacks only had to catch the opening remarks by the carmaker’s global marketing chief Jim Farley at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Farley shifted gears before going into his prepared remarks as the show’s keynote speaker to issue a direct apology for the three Internet ads that have generated a worldwide controversy and, according to various Ford insiders, caused significant damage to the maker’s global reputation.

Insisting he was “shocked” by the ads, which were “not authorized” by Ford, Farley issued the latest in a series of apologies, proclaiming that Ford is “very regretful,” and “taking the matter very seriously.”

That translates into the firing of several members of the advertising team at Ford’s global partner, WPP, with other dismissals highly likely, sources later told

First Look: 2013 Ford Taurus

A higher-mileage "rolling showcase" of technology.

by on Apr.20, 2011

Ford updates the Taurus for 2013, adding new features and a second EcoBoost engine rated at 31 mpg highway.

Just three years into its latest run, the Ford Taurus is getting  an update designed to enhance its appeal through a mix of design changes, technological updates and, perhaps most significantly, more fuel-efficient powertrains.

The 2013 Taurus will become the first Ford product to offer two versions of Ford’s new high-mileage EcoBoost engine technology, one capable of delivering up to 31 miles per gallon, a significant figure for such a large sedan.

The new Taurus is “a rolling showcase of our best technologies and features,” proclaimed Ford’s global product czar, Derrick Kuzak, during a New York Auto Show preview.

The Taurus is one of the best-known nameplates in the American market, industry studies have shown.  First introduced in 1986, the sedan became an instant best-seller before Ford began to shift focus to its more profitable light truck models.  The nameplate was briefly allowed to lag, but when he joined the company four years ago, then-new CEO Alan Mulally pressed for its return.
