When 1,600 HP Isn’t Enough: Devel Sixteen Promising 5,000 Ponies

310 mph hypercar set to debut at Dubai Motor Show

by on Nov.09, 2017

If it lives up to expectations, the Devel Sixteen will easily become the world's most powerful hypercar.

Whether you’re talking muscle cars like the Dodge Demon, or hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron, somebody always thinks there needs to be a bit more power. But if the promise being made by a Dubai-based automotive start-up holds true, we just might be hitting the performance wall.

Set to debut at the Dubai Motor show next week, the Devel Sixteen is said to make an eye-popping 5,000 horsepower from its quad-turbo V-16 engine, enough to propel it to a top speed of 310 miles per hour. To put that into perspective, that’s more than triple what the Chion and the Hennessey Venom F5 can manage.

There’ve been plenty of rumors about what Devel might have in store since a prototype was first introduced back in 2013. It even released video two years ago showing the engine undergoing testing and reaching a full 4,515 hp on the dyno – with developers noting that they had yet to bring those four turbos up to full boost.

Bloodhound Sniffs Victory as it Preps for 1,000 MPH Run

First test “a proper workout,” but the tough part is yet to come.

by on Oct.31, 2017

At 210 mph, the Bloodhound SSC was just warming up. It is designed to top 1,000 mph.

At just 210 mph it wasn’t much of a run for either Andy Green or the Bloodhound. But the first test drive of the jet-powered car was a clear sign that everything is coming together for what will a race for the record books.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of Green’s first entry into the Guinness Book. On October 15, 1997, he became the first human to blast through the sound barrier in an earlier jet car, the ThrustSSC, reaching 714.144 miles per hour. Now, the 55-year-old Green is out to boost that number by more than 40 percent.

Setting Records!

It has been 10 years since the Bloodhound Supersonic Car, or SSC, project was first conceived. But it only this month made its first test run at Cornwall Airport Newquay, Green assessing the event as “a proper workout for the vehicle.”

Meet the World’s Fastest “Production” Car

At nearly 266 mph, Hennessy Venom GT blows past Bugatti Veyron.

by on Apr.03, 2013

The Hennessy Venom GT preps for its record run.

We’re not quite sure where you could use that sort of speed – or even where you’d go to confirm the numbers — but the folks at Texas-based Hennessy Performance are popping the champagne to celebrate a 265.7 mile per hour run of their supercar, the Venom GT.

The numbers, officially clocked by VBOX across a two-mile stretch of tarmac at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Leemore, California, actually falls short of the 267.8 mph record previously set by a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – but that wasn’t for a production model. Bugatti’s cars are normally speed limited at a paltry 258 mph when they roll out of the factory.

“Thus, at 265.7 mph the Venom GT is the fastest production car available to the public,” boasts company founder and president, John Hennessey.

As our friends over at Autoblog suggested, the word “production” is a matter of debate.  Don’t expect to see the Venom GT start rolling off the line like mere Porsches. The vehicle used for the test run was only the seventh Hennessy built.
