The End Approaches For Dodge Viper

But demand for “Ultimate Viper ACR” will keep plant busy to the end.

Members of Team Viper ready an engine for installation into a new Dodge Viper. The plant is being shut down and Viper production ended for good.

Barely five years after bringing the Dodge Viper back to life, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will end production and permanently shut down the special Detroit assembly line tasked with building the two-seat sports car.

A total of just 87 workers will be impacted by the closure of the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant on Detroit’s east side, but FCA plans to offer all of them work at some of its other facilities.

Dodge Unleashes Fastest-Ever Street-Legal Viper Track Car

The new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal street-legal Viper track car ever.

Viper sales have jumped 40% since the car was re-positioned with a price cut last fall, Dodge brand president Tim Kuniskis told reporters during a tour of the Fiat Chrysler plant that builds the modern muscle car in Detroit.

In addition to a new price, the maker introduced a new website and viral advertising campaign that have sparked fresh interest in the Viper, said Kuniskis, adding a new configurator that allows visitors to build their own, personalized Viper has attracted more than 4,000 visitors since it went live about a month ago.

Not all of the visitors are ever going to buy a Viper, Kuniskis said, but the visits help create a halo around the Viper and Dodge brand. The website, along with the new video, Viper: DNA of a Supercar, also have helped put the spotlight back on Viper, which has been overshadowed lately by introduction of the 707-horsepower Hellcat.
