Denso Readies Driver Monitor for Big Trucks

Supplier adapts tech for commercial vehicles.

Denise's adapted its driver monitor sensor for use in large commercial vehicles.

Denso Corp. is looking to keep drivers of large commercial vehicles alert and awake behind the wheel, or least let them know when they should pull over, with its newly released a driver status monitor that can be used by vehicles already on the road.

The driver status monitor is can be placed in existing vehicles on the road and can therefore accelerate the introduction of safety devices to large commercial vehicles.

If drowsy or distracted driving is detected, the monitor voices an alert. It is now sold by Denso Sales and Denso service stations across Japan and will be released outside the country later this year. (more…)

Denso Reveals Improved Night-Vision Sensor

Better sensor helps recognize objects in road more quickly.

Denso's new vision sensor provides a 40% improvement, potentially cutting response time of driver assistance technologies.

Denso Corp., one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, announced it has developed a new standard vision sensor that at night can detect pedestrians, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other objects or road users.

Working in conjunction with a millimeter-wave radar sensor, the new vision sensor allows automobiles to automatically activate emergency braking when obstacles are identified, helping reduce accidents and improve overall vehicle safety.

The system is featured in the 2018 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, which were released in Japan last month. In addition to Japan, the MPVs are sold in China, Russia and smaller Asian and Middle Eastern countries. (more…)

Toyota, Mazda, Denso Join Forces for EV Development

New joint venture designed to produce new technologies.

Toyota, Mazda and Denso created a new joint venture to develop electric vehicle technology.

Toyota Motor Corp is setting up a new venture with Mazda Motor Corp. and Denso to develop electric vehicle technology for what has become a worldwide race to develop electric vehicles to meet demands for cleaner air.

Toyota is putting up 90% of the capital for the new venture, EV C.A. Spirit Co. Ltd. Denso and Mazda will put 5% each. The new venture will be based in Nagoya, Toyota’s home base in Japan. Denso is one of Toyota’s most trusted suppliers of sophisticated components, including electronics.

The venture will be staffed by selected engineers from the three companies to ensure the efficient implementation of the joint technological development projects, according to a statement released by Toyota. (more…)
