Honda took the wraps off the 10th generation Honda Civic sedan with a clear plan in mind: attract compact luxury buyers. The new sedan will go on sale “Before Thanksgiving,” John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co. Inc., said.

Mendel also said during special preview in Detroit that Honda is preparing to offer more versions of the Civic, one of the world’s most popular cars, will include a sedan, coupe, high-performance Si models, a five-door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type-R model for the U.S. market.

Acura Hopes Revised ILX Can Gain Momentum in Booming Compact Luxury Market

Update delivers more power, technology and improved appearance.

by on Nov.21, 2014

Acura's Mike Accavitti introduces the 2016 version of the Acura ILX this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

In the high-tech world, companies like Apple often go for what’s known as “first-mover advantage.” By that logic, Acura should be dominating the booming compact luxury sedan segment with its once-groundbreaking ILX model. But things haven’t worked out as the maker hoped.

The ILX has been struggling to simply hold its momentum as newer entries like the Audi A3 and segment-leading Mercedes-Benz CLA race to market. Sales of the Acura offering tumbled 19.3% last month and are off 16.2% for the full calendar-year.

Auto Show News!

So, the luxury arm of Honda Motor Co. has a lot riding on the 2016 version of the Acura ILX that was unveiled this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The updated model comes as an unusually early mid-cycle refresh, and aims to address the shortfalls of the original by tweaking its appearance, boosting its power and adding plenty of new technology. Acura Prepping “Substantially New” ILX for 2016

Remake to debut at LA Auto Show next month.

by on Oct.20, 2014

Acura tosses out a teaser of the 2016 ILX.

Hoping to salvage its sluggish-selling entry-level model, the ILX, Acura is promising to reveal a “substantially new” version of the compact sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.

Launched for the 2013 model-year, the ILX got off to a slow start amidst mixed reviews, though it has been bringing in some of the Gen-X and Gen-Y buyers that Acura has been desperate to win over. But playing in one of the market’s hottest – and most competitive – market segments, “good enough” clearly isn’t enough to put Acura back on the map.

“The new 2016 ILX stands to solidify and broaden its appeal with a comprehensive update that includes a potent new powertrain, more forceful, sporty exterior styling, and substantially upgraded interior design,” declared a statement from the Honda luxury brand.

Jaguar Lays Out Specs, U.S. Launch Plans for New XE Sport Sedan

American debut delayed a year.

by on Oct.01, 2014

The new Jaguar XE won't reach the U.S. until Spring of 2016, but will arrive with a full range of engines, as well as rear- and all-wheel-drive.

Jaguar will wait until spring 2016 to bring its new XE sport sedan to the U.S., a full year behind the global launch of the new compact model, but it means that Stateside buyers will be offered a nearly full range of diesel and gas powertrains – as well as the all-wheel-drive system likely to be critical to ensuring the Jaguar XE’s appeal in cold weather regions of the American marketplace.

Following up on an early, invitation-only preview in London last month, Jaguar will be giving the public a first close look at the all-new XE at the Paris Motor Show, which begins with a media preview this week.

The XE is arguably the most important new product Jaguar has launched in years, at least from a volume perspective, targeting one of the globe’s fastest-growing market segments.

Describing it as “the new custodian of the Jaguar DNA,” Chief Platform Engineer Nick Miller said the XE is intended to be “an accessible Jaguar attracting a new audience to the Jaguar brand.”
