Cadillac to Launch All-New, Ultra-Premium V-8

“Developed more for refinement…than pure horsepower.”

by on Jan.22, 2016

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen.

As part of its ongoing push to rebuild its image and challenge the best of its import luxury competitors, Cadillac will launch an all-new twin-turbo V-8 engine in models like the new CT6 sedan and the even more upscale CT8 to follow later in the decade.

The launch of the new 4.2-liter powerplant is still “a few years off,” Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen told TheDetroitBureau.com during an exclusive interview, and final details have yet to be resolved, including the transmission it will be paired with and whether it will be packaged in an all-wheel-drive configuration.

The new V-8 is being “developed more for refinement, sophistication and torque, rather than for pure horsepower,” explained de Nysschen during an interview in Los Angeles where he is attending the first media drive of the 2017 Cadillac CT6.

Lofty Price Tag for High-Performance Cadillac CTS-V

2016 model bigger, faster – and $11,000 more expensive.

by on Apr.30, 2015

The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is larger but also a lot more powerful, with a 640-hp V-8.

Cadillac’s new 640-horsepower CTS-V will not only be the brand’s most powerful model ever, but also its most expensive sedan ever, at $84,990 including delivery charges.

The third-generation performance sedan is aimed at some of the luxury segment’s toughest competitors, including the vaunted BMW M5. But while it delivers more muscle than the Bavarian performance sedan it remains far from certain consumers will accept the hefty price tag which is about $11,000 more than the outgoing version of the Caddy CTS-V.

High-Performance News!

“V-Series represents the pinnacle of Cadillac, a brand that now makes drivers’ cars at the highest level,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president, in a statement. “The new CTS-V is essentially two cars in one: a luxury sedan with sophisticated road manners and a track-capable sports car with awe-inspiring performance.”

Cadillac Has Plans to Grow V-Series Performance Line-Up

But forget the Escalade-V. Some models are off-limits.

by on Apr.21, 2015

The Cadillac ATS-V Coupe arrives track-capable from the factory, powered by a twin-turbocharged engine rated at 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Cadillac will put two tire-spinning models on the road in the months ahead, the latest additions to its V-Series line-up. But the launch of the 2016 Caddy ATS-V and CTS-V will mark just the beginning of what could become a significant line-up of high-performance products to be introduced by the end of the decade.

General Motors’ flagship brand is setting out on the most rapid rollout of new products in its history, with eight new models – five targeting all-new market segments – due to debut before the end of the decade. And a number of those could get V-Series spinoffs, senior officials told TheDetroitBureau.com following a test drive of the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V in Austin, Texas.

Charge Ahead!

“The ‘V’ will be on more models than today,” said Dave Leone, Caddy’s chief engineer, quickly stressing that not every product in the Cadillac line-up will get the distinctive badge marking the performance sub-brand. (more…)

First Look: 2016 Cadillac CTS-V

Corvette Performance from a midsize luxury sedan.

by on Dec.22, 2014

The new Cadillac CTS-V is the luxury brand's first production model to break the 200 mph wall.

When General Motors flagship brand launched its then-new ATS sedan several years ago, it sounded a warning shot to competitors with an audacious ad campaign dubbed “Cadillac v the World.” In hindsight, it might have wanted to wait a bit, because the all-new Caddy CTS-V promises to be the true world-beater.

Set to debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show, the third-generation, 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will not only be larger and more lavishly equipped, but it will also deliver an awesome upgrade in performance. The new supercharged 6.2-liter LT-1 V-8 will punch out a neck-snapping 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.

Muscle Up!

To put that into perspective, that’s 84-hp more than the Gen-2 CTS-V and a mere 10 ponies less than the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The most powerful production model ever to bear the Cadillac crest, the new V sedan will launch from 0 to 60 in a mere 3.7 seconds. It also becomes the first Caddy road car to ever break the 200 mph top speed barrier.

Caddy Revs Up With ATS-V.R Racer

“A 170-mph billboard.”

by on Nov.14, 2014

Cadillac hints the ATS-V.R will make "up to 600 hp."

What good is a performance car if you don’t prove the metal’s mettle on track? Apparently Cadillac came to the same conclusion and even before officially unveiling its new high-performance ATS-V, it’s confirming plans to go racing with the equally new ATS-V.R.

While the street model won’t put in its first public appearance until next week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Cadillac lifted the covers on the race-spec model at the Circuit of the Americas, the Austin, Texas track that only recently hosted the U.S. Grand Prix.

A Real Performer!

The Cadillac ATS-V.R will get a significant boost over the already potent ATS-V model, the Detroit maker suggesting it will make “up to 600 horsepower.” It also will meet FIA GT3 specifications which would make it eligible to run in more than 30 different GT-series events around the world against such entrenched competitors as Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche.

First Look: Cadillac ATS V-Series

New coupe set to make 450 hp.

by on Nov.11, 2014

Cadillac reveals its new ATS-V muscle car.

A week ahead of its formal debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, we’re finally getting a look at some official images of the all-new Cadillac ATS-V coupe.

And in line with an earlier report from TheDetroitBureau.com, it appears that the new pocket rocket will be churning out a blistering 450 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque from an upgraded version of the 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 currently offered in the Cadillac CTS V-Sport model.

That will put it slightly ahead of the new BMW M3/M4 models in the horsepower wars, but just slightly under the new Mercedes-AMG C63.

Cadillac is hoping that the new ATS-V will put a much-needed halo around the brand. General Motors’ flagship division has won plenty of praise for its compact line but sales, so far, have lagged expectations.

Cadillac Confirms New ATS-V Debut in LA

First V-Series model to go V-6.

by on Oct.31, 2014

Cadillac will up the performance quotient of the ATS sedan and coupe models with a new V-Series.

True, it might be lifting another maker’s tagline, but Cadillac will be going “vroom, vroom,” when it rolls into the Los Angeles Auto Show a couple weeks from now.

General Motors’ once-dominant luxury brand is planning a massive expansion of its product line-up over the next few years, and it will start bottom to top with the roll-out of the all-new ATS-V, the maker has confirmed. It’s the first high-performance version of the compact sedan and coupe models, and the first V-Series addition in some years.

Power Up!

The debut will be equally significant if, as expected, the top-secret powertrain that will be used in the new ATS-V proves to be a twin-turbo V-6. That would mark the first time Caddy’s V-Series line shifts away from the classic V-8s that it has traditionally relied on.

Cadillac Readying Unprecedented Product Blitz

Maker aiming to match its German rivals.

by on Sep.23, 2014

The next Cadillac CTS-V Coupe will be one of the first new models to come as Caddy broadens its product portfolio substantially.

(Copyright 2014, TheDetroitBureau.com)

There was a time when luxury brands sought exclusivity above all else, even if that meant shutting the door on some potential buyers. No longer, as Mercedes-Benz has demonstrated with a rapidly expanding line-up that will soon reach from the under-$30,000 CLA to the top-line S600 Pullman limousine that, in some configurations, could top $1 million.

While Mercedes has confirmed plans to add 30 new or updated models by 2020 – rivals BMW and Audi making similar moves — Cadillac has been subsisting on a handful of products. But that’s about to change.

As part of a global restructuring that includes the move of its headquarters to New York City, the General Motors luxury division will unleash an unprecedented product assault aimed at catching up to its German rivals.

As with Mercedes, Cadillac could cover a far broader range of market segments, running from entry-lux to super-premium, by decade’s end, new global chief Johan de Nysschen told TheDetroitBureau.com in an exclusive interview.

Cadillac to Reveal New ATS-V at LA Auto Show

New performance model will be first from Caddy to go with a V-6.

by on Aug.28, 2014

The ATS is going high performance with a V-Series option that will be on display at the LA Auto Show in November and in showrooms in early 2015.

Cadillac will introduce an all-new performance model at the L.A. Auto Show in November, the new ATS-V sedan expected to target the formidable compact luxury segment benchmark the BMW M3.

It will be the first new V-Series model introduced in several years, and precedes the next-generation CTS-V model that Cadillac is also developing. That model is expected to debut early next year as one of several key new offerings the maker is currently working on, including an all-new flagship sedan.

The new ATS-V will be powered, according to several Cadillac sources who have spoken to TheDetroitBureau.com, by a version of the twin-turbo V-6 that was launched recently for the new CTS V-Sport, and is expected to match or slightly exceed the power of the latest BMW M3, which also uses a twin-turbo V-6 powerplant. Cadillac Muscles Up With Limited-Edition CTS-V Coupe

The “last chapter,” as all-new V-Series debuts next year.

by on May.12, 2014

The 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe gives aficionados something drive until the maker introduces a V-Series line-up next year.

Cadillac is saying “out with the old” in a way that performance drivers might appreciate. The luxury maker is launching a limited-edition version of the CTS-V Coupe for 2015 that it calls the “last chapter” for the current two-door, and a placeholder for the all-new V-Series line-up it is promising to introduce next year.

The CTS Coupe itself is a holdover, a two-door version of the previous-generation luxury sedan that Cadillac recently updated. The maker has been providing mixed signals about whether it actually will have a new version of the CTS Coupe in the future. For now, it is focusing the spotlight on the smaller 2015 ATS Coupe it introduced at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.

Stay in the Know!

But the CTS Coupe has plenty of fans who appreciate its aggressively angular design, arguably the most aggressive to emerge from the Cadillac styling studios since the maker adopted its distinctive Art & Science design language a decade ago. (more…)
